Hi, we took our 04 grand am in for some warranty work recently and when we got the car back a few things weren't working.
the problems that arose are:

Security light stays on all the time
Remote keyless entry does not work
Power door locks do not work
DRL do not come on
Fog/driving lights do not work
Interior lights don't work
Power trunk does not work
A/C compressor does not come on for a/c or defrost

all the above were working when we took car in

the warrenty work that was done was just to replace rear light circut boards.

I'd like to know if anyone has any idea what the underlying problem could be.

The dealer we took it to did not want to diagnose the new problems at their expense.:disappoin

Thanks

1 other thing where is the BCM located on this vehicle?

If those thing were not having issues before hand, I'd call the BBB and complain!!!
Then go back to where you had the work done and B***H ! Then proceed to tell them they were reported to the BBB, they'll probly make arangements for your service.

Right off I'd expect a fuse blown, but its hard to say exactly.
The BCM does control ALL of these things, it is located under the glove box.

In the Appearance-Non-Performance (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=2014)sub forum thier are proceedures for the interior, including the BCM/glove box.... I think .. :D

Its pretty easy to access though, pop out the glovebox, 4-5 screws, then slide that out slowly remove the light plug-in.
Its a small black box.

Good Luck w/stealership !

We went back to the dealership the following Monday (we p/u car on Friday) and complained to the service manager. he said they didn't do anything to the car.....implied that i should have told them that those things were working when we brought car in:screwy: we have contacted the BBB, just waiting for answer. I also called GM, but because we didn't buy the car from an actual GM dealer they couldn't help. Then I called the GM of the dealership and he agreed with his service dept (why wouldn't he?). I guess they don't care about customer service. I've talked to a few other mechanics and they told me that if that happened in their shop they would try to get to the bottom of it. it's just getting very annoying what with no a/c and p/locks............

thanks for the info...........

Bummer !

Like I said , check your fuses and relays.
Could easily be something like that too.

I checked all the fuses that I thought were connected to the problem. I don't know how to check the relays......

the tech at the dealership told me that he couldn't start the car (we have never had that problem) so he had to reset something (don't know what), could that have created these problems?

thanks

The only thing I can think of is the passlock system had to be reset due to the security light being on.

I dont think that would have caused the problem(s).

Also it doesnt matter where you bought the car.
You paid them to work on soemthing then when you got it back you had more wrong then before, sounds fishy to me.......

Remember you have 3 fuse boxes. one on each end of the dash and one under the hood. I suspect one of the under hood fuses(maxi) that controls all most of those things.
The AC compressor uses relays under the hood too.

The stealership is about the only ones that can properly diagnose a security problem.

With the security light, if its still on, try a relearn procedure might help, here is that....

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete.

Hello again....finally heard from the BBB ... the dealership stood firm. that is until we suggested that we would see them in court. They said they would diagnose for free:) .

Well we took car in today......it's the BCM...no word from warrenty company about replacement yet.runaround

if the above reset procedure is done incorrectly, could it affect the BCM?

Also how much is a BCM? Could I replace it myself? Sound fairly easy. Do I need a specific one? Or are all Grand Am BCM's the same?

Thanks again.......i luv this forum....lots of useful info.....:grinno:

BCM runs about $450-500 plus it has to be programed by a Tech II scan tool.

You can use a used one, probly find one for about $50-100.
But the GA it comes out of has to have the same options, Ie power windows, stereo etc, then it would still need reprogramed to work correctly.
