Acrylic Pearl Clear??

Hey'all!

I was looking on the mall a few days back,and I saw a bottle of pearl clear...Since i'm going to use acrylic paints on my model,I wanted to use something like that...

Does tamiya sell acrylic pearl clear?!

Even if they don't,someone has pics of a finished model with a pearl clear,so I can see the difference? Please? :p

I know they have a pearl clear in their TS laquer range which I've used on a couple of models. Unfortunately, the ones I used them on were ones sprayed with pearl colours anyway so you're not going to see the difference....

on the other hand, I can do a comparison test spray on some plastic for you if that helps.
What base colour were you thinking of putting the pearl on top of?

You can add pear powder to any paint you want. You can even select the COLOR of pearl you want.

Any automotive paint supply shop can hook you up with pearescents any size, or even shape! It isn't that expensive, and if you just want a table spoon or so, some shops would probably just give it to you if you are nice enough.

I was thinking about metallic blue,but any color to show the difference will help a lot!!!

yes it is a powder. and you just add it to any translucent/clear paint to achieve the pearlescence. The more you add, the more effect you get, so start with just a little, and add more until you get the desired effect. and you should be able to choose which color pearl you want. Just a tip, pearl red most always turns out pink looking.

secondly all paint used was Tamiya TS from the can, primer was halfords grey automotive.

i) All spoons
from left to right
grey primer - pearl clear
black - pearl clear
bright red - pearl clear
metallic light blue - pearl clear
metallic light blue - clear

ii) can't see it that clearly because it hasn't been sanded and polished.
What you can just about see, are the small flecks of pearl.

iii) same with the black but you can see the flecks clearer because of the black...

iv) which you can't say for the red. In reality, it is visible but not that great

v) on the metallic paints, you can't make out the pearl at all. There is however, a difference in the visual depth of the clear. On the pearl clear, it doesn't look as clear or as sharp; probably because of the pearl flecks in the clear as opposed to being under the clear.
i.e regular clear looks much glossier.

I only put one coat of the pearl clear on the spoons but I imagine that you can increase the effect by putting more coats of the pearl clear. However, I don't think it makes that much difference on metallic colours as you suggested you were going to do. On flat colours, it does add a noticeable pearl/metallic finish. I would also think it best to still finish with a coat or two of regular clear before polishing. If anything, I've noticed that the pearl clear doesn't seem to "pull-up" the metallic base paint's pigments as readily as TS-13 seems. This suggests that the pearl clear might be a good 1st clear layer on metallic paints before using TS-13 to finish.

I had planned to use the pearl clear on a yellow base for a lamborghini that's currently being modded.
I'll post what that looks like in the next week or two.

Hi this is one example with pearl clear coating.. Basically its the same as metallic colour but with pearl clear, it brings out more of the metallic effect.
