hey i was just wondering about wich way i should face my sub backwards or forwards in mysingle cab truck by taking the middle seat out and have the box come in level with the bottom of the seat and the sub facing backwards , or having the box sit a lil higher and have it facing the front , what will the difference be in sq and spl or wont any of it matter givin its built in a 100 % specification ported box.
any expert advice

id face it backwards. sound quality is usually better if you bounce it off of something. understood that they arent the loudest speakers but if you look at any higher quality BOSE system, you'll notice that they are direct refelcting speakers, meaning that they're designed to bounce off of the wall then into your ears.

so you dont think that jl audio is good quality , im happy with it and im sure there are allot of other people out there that are..... or did i miss understand your statement .But i would probebly agree with you that it would sound better if it reflected of the back and its less complicated to build a box then , now the question is :will my Ma 5028 hz amp be big enough for the sub and will it be clear ..... the amp has a s/n ratio of a 100db............................ and they clame that it can put out 4000 watts rms @1 ohm , now that sounds sceptical how ever the amp does have a max draw limit of 300 amps:eek: or fuse size so it does sound possable.

i think you misunderstood. i ment higher quality BOSE systems as opposed to lower quality BOSE systems.

tell you the truth BOSE systems in cars are for shit.

JL is actually my favorite. for subs anyway.

my system is actually 2 10 JL W6's in an H.O. (high output) box with a 600 watt jl amp for subs. a 500 watt jl amp for interior. interior speakers are MB quart "Q" series speakers (6 1/2's) and an alpine cda 7893 face. ive also got an alpine AI shuttle 6 cd changer, and all kinds of monster cable wireing.

i dont know thats pretty sceptical but it is possible, you would need a HUGE wire.

anyway yes it is possible to get a lot more watts out of an amp if you wire it into 1 ohm. but you WILL blow your speakers.

match the ohms that the box is wired in.

if your not sure what the ohms of the TOTAL BOX, not just the individual speakers is then you can go to JLaudio.com and see there diagrams on boxes.

you can have 4 ohm speakers wired so they are actually 2 ohm or 8 ohm. all depends on how they are wired. if its a stereo box then most likely its 4 ohm

well ya the amp does put up allot of power at 1 ohm but the sub that i have has dual 1.5 ohm voice coils so the amp and everything will get set up right and i only have 1 13 .5 w 7 so alll the power will be going to the one sub , in doing so the distortion factor will be minimized becuase of the great power production by the amp , so i wouldnt have to turn amy gain up and the clippin will be the least , the ho box wont work becuase ther is no way that would be able to fit a ho hox bbehind my seat with the w 7 in there how ever i mgiht be able to get the same kinda box customly made for my truck

un4gvnbb .... you are making an apples to oranges comparison. The Bose 901 speakers are aiming the direct sound at the wall, to be bounced off. A subs frequencies are not directional, and so they cannot be "bounced as such." There is NO spl or sq difference between mounting the subs facing in or out. The only real difference is that the volume of the sub is not counted against the total volume of the box if you mount it on the outside.

really? have you ever heard a band pass box that wasn't enclosed in a trunk? i understand that low frequency sound can not be localized however, it does make a difference if you bounce it off of a surface first. the sound is projected out of the ports so it is possible to direct the sound, although it doesnt make a difference if bass is in an open room.

the "corner reflector" has to do with placing the port/speaker in a high pressure node, NOT with bouncing it off some surface.

understood... but try facing the ports toward the inside of the car, especially if you have an opening from the back seat into the trunk.

not saying that you have to compare it that way, just more dramatic, and then you'll see the difference either way.

when the ports are facing toward the back of the trunk it sounds right. if you face them towards the inside of the car it sounds like a fire cracker in a tin can (exagerated!) .

i know that putting it in a pressure node makes more of a difference, no dispute over that, but what im saying is that it does make a difference which way the ports face, even though its not the end all be all, but if you want it to sounds better, face them towards the back

i have seen the jl audio w7 13.5 at my local stereo shop
they had a 1500wt rockford fosgate amp hooked up to it
hits hard there was dust comming from the ceiling and the
lights in the building were rattlin' i would recomend putting
your sub facing backwards the more things it bounces of
the better. thats why if you have a smaller car like a mitsu
eclipse hatchback the db reading would be higher then if it
was in a trunk.

I'd fire em backward as well. The bass reflecting off the back of the cab will make it sound more deep. In my extended cab '99 Silverado I have my 2 12s firing downward. It produces a really good bass reflex inside the cab. Its not entirely loud outside the cab, but provides a theater like sound inside. Out of all my friends I do think my system sounds the best overall. You may not be able to hear me from blocks away but it sooths me while im driving and my friends love it.

sub systems that you can hear from a block away are wasting energy flexing the surfaces of the vehicle, instead of pressurizing the air inside the vehicle ...... and "bouncing" bass waves still does not effect their intensity - the placement of sub in a high pressure node is what is responsible for the effect.
