yeah, any z24 from 96-99 will have the same remote.
to program remotes all you have to do is go into the trunk and pull down the liner from over the driver side wheel well to expose the RF moduler box. find the plug that had 2 wires going to it but is not connected to anything. cut the plug off and hold the wires togeather. you will hear the doors unlock lock and then the trunk will pop, this means it is ready to program. keep the wires held togeather this whole time and hold the unlock and lock buttons on one of the remotes for 15 seconds or until you hear the doors unlock lock and the trunk pop again. do that for each additional remote and make sure the wires never separate during this process or you will have to do it all again. once all remotes are programed just un touch the wires and tape them up or put the plug back on, whatever you do is fine jsut so they dont touch any more.

Alright, what if I got the remote from a newer Cavi that has the red alarm button, will it work with a 97? will the alarm work, it works with the horn and door locks doesn't it?

The remotes just do not work anymore, I have tried reprogramming them I even took them right to chev and had them test them , they are just not working anymore. And no newer remotes will not work, I tried that yesterday I went to the wreckers and got a remote from an 02 and 1 from an 05, the FCCID numbers do not match and will not program to the car. You have to have gm part #16245100 and it has to have FCCID AB01502T

yeah, the new ones dont work but any from 96-99 will. the new ones are completly different and actualy require a tool from the dealership to get them programed, even if you have the tool they still only work on the new cars

according to some of the things have read it is not just cavalier's that you can get the remotes from. You can get them from lots of GM vehicles from 97 all the way up to 02 but you have to match up those numbers.

We can cencel this thread, I got 2 from the wrecker here, walked around for a few hours and found 2 in some scrap GM vehicles that matched up on the part # and FCC ID's so I have 2 working remotes now :D
