--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seeing if anyone is interested in a very reliable DD. 1998 Honda Passport EX.
Every option and a lot of recent maintenance done. The truck runs flawlessly, and everything works, cold A/C, upgraded head unit, speakers, and 12 dics changer. Very good condition and had been driven by my wife for the past 4 years and I've been driving it the last 11 months.
My buddy has the same truck and tows his 3500lb trailer w/car.(no problem)
Automatic
136,xxx miles
*****Just ran a tank of 87 and got 321miles out of it. This was with the a/c on sometimes and a mix of city/highway***********
New:
Timing belt, water pump, serp belt, pullys, O2 sensors, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, KYB shocks 245/75/16 Goodyyear Wrangler MT/R and oil always changed every 3,000 miles. (all items done about 1,000 miles ago) Recent work done to truck equals over $3,000
Similar cars are selling anywhere between $4000 in fair condition to $5700 in excellent condition. Looking for somewhere near the $4500-$5000 area. Again this is a feeler(just in case my current plan does not go through). Feel free to ask questions or make an offer. Maybe even trade?
Pictures do not show new tires.

What maintenance has been done on the transmission? Have you towed or taken it offroad?

Never used to tow, trans has had the fluid changed once since I owned it. At 98k. Also I'm locted in SE PA.

That baby needs an ATF fluid/filter change - now! Especially if you plan to keep it - should be done every 15-20k on this auto tranny.
Do you know if the ATF was ever changed prior to 98k miles??
Also, is the truck a 4x4? How do you like the Goodyear Wrangler tires?
EDIT TO ADD: just looked at the pics, yes, it is a 4x4. Nice truck - btw
You mentioned an interest in a possible trade - for what??

Tires are great more noise than I expected but then again I'm use to passenger tires. I'm always hesitant on trans fluid changes b/c of stories I read. People have problems after they change the fluid b/c of the lack of friction. Trades considered, car or another SUV. I get borded very quickly with cars.

With this tranny if you do NOT change the fluid, that's when horror stories get started, just fyi.
Good luck on that truck; nice one.
I would've traded you the BMW, but I just recently sold it.

Edmund's lists your truck with the mileage you listed at private party price of $3,682. With a tranny that hasn't had regular service, the risk would be high at this point in time for trouble.
Did you mention how long you have owned the truck?
I am interested but not at 4,500.

Please read first post. It's states how long I've owned it. Edmunds is off. You might be able to get a 96-97 for that price. Everyone I know(my credit union, the dealership my brother works at) uses KBB and NADA the price is fair for the condition. I'll get the trans fluid changed if it helps make a sale. This is a VERY SOLID truck and there is no need to worry. True thing can happen but one babied like this will last for many miles. Check out the other sites. Also the prie might be a little flexable. I UPDATED THE PHOTOS TO SHOW NEW TIRES!

gray1g - garydh2000 does have a point. The values on these trucks drop FAST; have to tell you, that your opinion of $3,682 for a 96-97 Rodeo is a bit high - seriously.
As much as I hate to admit it, the value of my '97 in superb condition with fluids changed EVERY year on the auto tranny, etc etc and the extra equipment listed in my signature, I MIGHT get $3,000 for mine - however, I'll get dinged on the mileage at 175k, so I may get $2,500 for mine if I were to sale it private party.
However, to me, my truck is worth at LEAST $4k; but I would never get it; which is why mine will have to crawl to it's grave when I'm through with it.
What others are saying, even if you are to change your tranny fluid prior to selling it, is many of us know on this board that these auto tranny's require fluid intervals every 25k at MOST for true longetivity; without that, many GM 4L30-E transmissions only make it to a little over 100k or so. It's very rare to find any GM transmission go past 100k or so without regular fluid changes; many many of them far surpass 150k with very frequent intervals.
I am, by no means saying your truck is NOT solid however, I'm sure it is; and what would help, for sure, is to have the transmission pan dropped, insert a new filter and new fluid, this does help to sale, if anything for maintenance documentation, AND so people know all fluids are up to spec.
Again, nice truck, if I was closer to you, I would seriously think about it; but I myself, after currently having 3 automatics by different manufactorers, the next truck will be a 5-spd - just easier maintenance wise.
Thought about trading it in for another car of your choice? If your brother works at a dealer that's offering you $4,500 - $5,700 for it, heck, I'd take the deal. Especially if they offer you anywhere from $5-6k for it.

A 98 model year, in superb shape, is good priced at around $3,500-4K.

Point taken. It's funny, I never knew these trannys were so weak. My other 98 Passport I drove to 170K with never changing the fluid! And I bought that one with 101k on it! Guess I'm just lucky?

I'm not saying they're weak. And technically, if they are city driven, never tow, never off-road they should last 200k easy.
ANY auto tranny requires frequent service intervals; especially if they are used in a way that an SUV is designed for use.
I tow, go off-roading, and all kinds of things with mine, my truck does not live a typical suv life, most other Rodeo owners trucks don't either - which is why we're extra picky about the maintenance.
But, if your Rodeo has never left the black-top, never towed, never anything rough, then yes, it'll go forever without much concern - in which, you'd save yourself a lot of money gas purpose wise to invest in a lighter-weight SUV.

Why do people base so much importance on edmunds and kbb? It doesnt take many things into account and I don't see how you could take the book value and reduce the price further based on what you may think are problems.

I honestly agree with you Dober, but try selling a car here in Colorado anyways at blue-book value with maybe a mild issue or two; doesn't work too well.
We had that '85 BMW for sale for a LONG time at a good few hundred less then book-value, we got several calls of everyone saying we wanted WAY too much for it - almost like they wanted us to GIVE it to them. We didn't negotiate on price for several months, finally we just decided to drop it another few hundred - sold in a day!
The ONLY thing wrong with the car by the time we DID sale it, was the fact that it was 22yrs old - car was in excellent shape otherwise, people were just afraid of what could be wrong or would go wrong on a car that old.
I am NOT suggesting he lower his price, only saying that I would be lucky to get nearly $4k for mine if I were to try and sale it with 175k miles, because people DO look at mileage as a factor of purchase.
I AM suggesting that he talk to his brother's dealership, cause he may be able to trade it in faster then selling it because gas prices are on the rise again, and if he can get $5k for it, he'll be sitting pretty.

Theres no way the dealership would ever give me that much for this car. The ACV (Actual Cash Value) is what they'd give and that what you'd be able to get for this car at auction. Maybe $3000 tops. If people are interested please feel free to make an offer. I'll set the price again at $4400 obo.

Sorry, I thought you had mentioned your brother worked at a dealer and said you could get $4,500 - 5,700 for it.
Yes, most dealers won't give Isuzu owners anything in comparison to what we feel they're worth - believe me I understand.
Considering 4 new ball joints for my Rodeo are gonna run me $250-300 for parts, and she needs new shocks, and a muffler, not to mention tires that are more suited to snow/mud conditions - sometimes I wonder if I should just throw $2-3k at purchasing another slightly newer Rodeo. But, with the amount of miles I put on, I'd be looking at the same boat with another Rodeo in a year or so, specially if I bought one with 100k or so.
I do wish I lived closer, I would definitely take her for a test drive and check her out. As soon as the snow fly's you'll sale that truck right quick!
