90 525 fuel pump?

i tested my fuel pressure by puting a T with a gauge on it on the line coming from the pump and it has about 36 psi and if i unplug the fpr (which is new) it goes up for a sec then back to mid 30s.. a while back the pump was noisey but i dont notice it now.. so do i need to replace the fuel pump? what pressure should i expect doing it like this

Did you run the fuel tank down too low and starve the fuel pump?

Most pumps are liquid cooled...and if you were doing ahem..."spirited" driving with a low fuel level you could have damaged the pump.

It might have been noisy when the level was low, but if you have a full tank that could have made it stop.

i have only run it down 1 time below about 1/8 tank( about 50 or 60 miles) but it was noisy for about 2 weeks and then seemed to quiet down.. i was just told that my sluggishness may be caused from low fuel pressure.. and so i tested it to be about 35 or 36 e34.com says replace it but its a little expensive so i wanted a few more opinions.. thanks

Yeah, that's probably why you have surging problems when it's under a load.

Have you tried putting fuel injector cleaner into the gas? Maybe that could help. I know it does work if the injectors are gumed up.

yea i used lucas injector cleaner it seemed to help a little..it seems like everything i do is changing it a little and im slowly getting it running right there are just several things wrong with the old dinosaur..

You using premium fuel in it? Also you could look at your battery if it's old or not. When my battery died on me and I changed it out it seemed to help the sluggishness.

Although this other battery was completely dead so I don't recommend it if it's working properly.
