A good starter bike...might be cramped for a taller rider...how tall are you?

You'd be fine on it, I imagine. On any 250, you're going to do some rowing through the gears, but it would be a SPECTACULAR starter bike with an excellent learning curve... it will let you make mistakes and not kill you in the process.

May I ask how old you are? More just a curiosity than anything. Also, where do you live? If you're anywhere in the Northern US or Canada, I'd hang on to the car. Winter on a bike is NOT friendly in those regions. ;)

Any bike will kill you if you are being dumb...don't kid yourself.

If you ride off into the trees at 70 mph, it doesn't matter if you're on a 250 Ninja or a GSXR1000...you're still fertilizer...

It's cool. You just touched on a pet peeve of mine, that being that beginners often make the mistake of thinking a smaller displcement bike is "safer" somehow...obviously it's not. It's easier to handle. Has very little to do with being safe. That comes from the rider.

I have TONS of useful advice on riding and staying safe, but you seem to know it all so I'll save it for someone that wants to hear it.

If nothing else, take the MSF course. They'll teach you all the basics and some great ways to deal with situations without having to soil your underwear to gain the insight. I did it the knothead way, I taught myself. Riders who start with MSF are MUCH more confident and become accomplished riders faster.

Then when you feel pretty comfortable, read "A Twist of the Wrist" Vol 1 and 2 for some really meaty info on performance riding...

Enjoy! Post pics of the bike when you get it!:grinyes:

I wanted to get an aprilla RS250 or Honda VFR400... But its just too expensive for me atm... the problem is getting the licence alone will set me back 900$ or 450 pounds... Then there's the bike and the leathers and helmet and insurance... :disappoin If I go in for 125, the licence is 200$, that leaves me with some money for a bike. Why is owning a bike in the UK so darned expensive? :banghead:

Wow. Here you just gotta take a test, do a few basic manuevers, and pay $15 or so to have a new license issued with the motorcycle endorsement on it. Thing is, probably a third of the people I know who ride never got the M on their license...long as you have a proper registration and insurance on the bike, most times they don't even say anything about it if you get stopped...

It always seemed weird to me that you can get insurance here for a bike without being legally qualified to operate it.:screwy:
