97 Tapping on start

I have a 97 with the 5.4. On first start of the day I'll get a tapping noise from the engine. After she warms up she's fine until the next morning or after she sits for many hours. No engine lights. Oil is good. Regularly maintained with synthetics since day one. 230K. What could it be? Valves?
