New Problem

Found some oil on the ground in a strange area - at first I didn't think it was from my car - it was. :banghead:

Drivers side, under the center door post, a steel brake line rubbed the frame and wore a nice little hole that is leaking brake fluid.:frown: The hole is in the top of the line and it is so tight one can hardly get to it at all.

Does anyone know what one does in a situation like this except take it to the dealer and pay more than the national debt to get the entire line replaced?

TIA Stan

You're not going to believe this..
There's a guy over at LincolnsOnline with that exact problem, several years back. He cleaned and sanded the area, and coated it with J.B.Weld (http://jbweld.net/products/uses.php) as a temporary repair. It's still holding solid, clean & tight several years later.

I better get under there and see if mine are rubbing anywhere :yikes:

If you pull them out of the rubber hold downs you may be able
to cut the line at the hole, sand it smooth and put a union on it.

A Union is a brass compresson that squeezes on to the pipe and holds pressure. If it is ABS the pressure does not get as great as old school and they held fine then.

For a crappy area i wouldnt hesitate to cut it in two spots and get a 2 ft
brake line and two fittings.

Remember to bleed them after

Good Luck

It's not a Problen it's an Adventure
