Ive heard that the eclipse GST will cut out at 130. Is this just on the stock gst?
If i add performance parts can it go over 130?
BTW, i dont plan on going over 130 ever but im just curious.
For example, do you think this car will do over 130?

The car has an electronic speed limiter on it around 137mph I think. If you dissable that then yes you can go faster.

You have to open up the ECU and take out a resister if I remember that right. Search and you should be able to find it. Try VFAQ.com

i've hit 135 in my rs going downhill =D well...down parley's canyon actually lol.
but most built in speed limiters can be disabled with a external wire being clipped , throw on a toggle switch because for osme odd reason it usually trips the CEL light , did on my mx-3 and on my mazda 6 i. :/ but if you toggle it you can turn it on and off at will for things like emissions and inspection.

The rs and gs dont have speed limiters. They dont have enough power to get up that fast. Neither do the gsx I dont think. And its all in the ECU unless you put a switch on the speed sensor which would kill your speedo to and throw off your odometer.

You can get a 1980 S-10 up to 130 going down parley's..it's insanely steep. one of the steepest canyons in the country I believe.

Why would they do it to just the GST? That doesn't make sense... But I'm not disagreeing with you, cause I actually think that is correct for some reason... My TSi AWD has seen 140 with no cutoff so who knows whats up with that... I was scared to go any faster than that, also the fact that its just plain stupid. (Back when I first got the car for anybody wondering)
Oh, and |_eclipse_|... Just chill dude... Seriously... I don't feel that this thread is out of line for a serious answer. He was asking a legit question about the speed limiter and if performance parts will push it past that limit...
The answer is yes, performance parts will give it the umph it needs to get past 130 granted the speed limiter has been removed/disabled... But you must realize that its there for your safety. Also note that your tires are probably not rated to go over 130 unless you replace them with a higher grade of tire...

I dont get it either but my car has seen 140 also and that thing never cuts back. The only reason you should remove it is if you getting that high of a trap speed at the track, which we all know your not going to unless your putting down an ass of power.

The reason that the GST has a limiter on it is because it normally didn't come with Z rated tires thus the tires were unreliable at high speeds. The GSX came with Z rated tires, and well the GS and RS, that just speaks for itself.
I'm pretty sure what I just said is on VFAQ as well.

Plus its very illegal, thats odometer fraud.
The article for taking out the speed limiter is on the dsmtuners tech articles. Otherwise you can get DSMlink, you can disable it that way too.

Why the fuck would they even bother with Z rated tires on a stock RS lol..it's pathetic and can't even hit the Z rated limit depending on which company usually like 145 - 160 for 8 hours or some shit like that..forgot exactly but Z rated fromt he factory on a Rs...lol..

They dont put z rated tires on the rs/gs. He was talking about how they dont have enough power to get up to those speeds. Unless your going downhill or have like a 5mile road.

Um I know for a fact the GSX has no speed limiter. Fastest I went was at 165 with yokohamas, nothing blew until the next day. Front tire gave away at 100 on my whay to work. Almost didnt feel it, car started very slightly to the right. That was with Yokohamas EVS100. My friends GSX (GST converted) had the speed limiter removed by a shop. It cost him $14. Also they said they took out the rev limiter.... wtf is that ?

If you stand on the gas and take it past redline, there is a saftey feature built in to keep the motor from revving to the moon and blowing up. I think stock its 7200 or something like that. On those stock cams and smaller turbos theres no reason to rev that high anyway.
