hey guys wats up. i am thinkin of buying a 94 protege and been trying to read up on performance mods etc for this car. from wat i understand so far the 1.8l engine in the dx and lx protege are the same with the exception of one being dohc and the other being sohc. my question is wat would you need to put the dohc head on the sohc block? in stead of swapping out for basically the same block. the two motors only have a few hp and torque diff anyway so my next question is. is this swap even worth the money and or time? for about ten more hp and about 5 more ft-lbs or torque? other than the fact that more parts are readily availiable to the dohc engine anyway. any and all help will be greatly appreiciated? thanks for your time.

I'm confused by your question. Why don't you just buy a car with the engine you want?

sorry. lol i guess the main question is is the diff in hp even worth the time and money you would spend on a swap? would your money be better spent tuning the sohc engine already in it? reason i ask is cause one of my friends is selling is protege for 300 and i was going to get it as a project car.

It's easier and less expensive to work with the SOHC engine.
