2000 Countour Power Loss Different

I've had this car for 4yrs starting with 80K miles. My issue has the same symptons but different environtment. I live in Dallas (high Summer heat). During the Summer mostly, I get the same type of loss of power when accelerating. I don't really see the issue until I turn the A/C on. If I continue to run the car like that with the loss of power, it will stall and take a few minutes to calm down then let me run it again until it acts up. Dallas needs AC in the Summer... I've done all the basic stuff like filters and plugs, etc. One other thing, I failed an inspection because the computer gave an error code. The tech told me the code said something about the catalytic converters... The loss of power feels like either running out of gas, overheating, or clogged fuel filter. One more thing, I've had to replace the alternator 3 times in the past year. When it started to go bad, the issue got worst.
So, I've heard on the posts, Fuel Pump, Lower Manifold something or another, and a brief comment about catalytic converters. Anyone have any suggestion of how to narrow this down? Each of the above are expensive to "test" and see what fixes the issue...
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...

You forgot to tell us the year and engine type of your car.
EDIT: Nm, its a 2000. Found it in your profile. Replace the fuel pump. Common problems in 2000. How-to is on contour.org.
Does the problem get worse as the fuel level gets lower?

Thanks for the confident feedback. I could not or don't know how to find the "how to" in contour.org. any suggestions or link? Not to doubt you, but your confident based on my description? Do you think that would clear the strange error code and heat related issue(s)? Thanks for the prompt response.
