okay i just read a post about a cherokee vs. a chevy astrovan in a parking lot being out performed. although i dont believe it i will give the benefit of the doubt and say it happened. how ever a couple people psted that the cherokee was only capable of

""Jeep Cherokee = 4.0 I6 = very, very slow... high 17's maybe mid on a good day...""

this is complet crap and im ticked about it... i have multiple time slips to prove other wise.. i have an 89 jeep cherokee 2wd 5spd with the 4.0L I6 and the worst time i ran on the quater with a bad RT of .887 was still 15.037 at 84.7mph. and that is being with 137000 miles one shot fuel injector and shitty tires. my best on a set of M/T street slicks and all tuned up (still stock) was an R/T of .008 and a 1/4mile time of 14.768 at 89.72mph.

now all that aside i think this beater jeep deserves some damn credit for being able to pull off times that vehicles off the showroom floor to date with larger motors better trans and smaller empty weight values cant even come within 1.50 seconds 1/4 mile time if they tried and are nearly 20n year newer.

ta hell with your astro beating jeep non believrs.:banghead:

how did you, with "shitty tires and one shot fuel injector" run .3 slower then you did all tuned up and with slicks? what was your 60 foot when you are running a 15 flat at 84

what vehicles are you referencing when you say they have larger motors blah blah blah and are slower? the srt version which runs a low 13?

here is an 87 jeep running a 17 http://www.dragtimes.com/Jeep-Cherokee-Timeslip-6679.html

here is an 89 running a 16.7 http://www.dragtimes.com/Jeep-Cherokee-Timeslip-8543.html

RT's dont affect your time unless you are bracket racing.

you have an 89 jeep cherokee, not a ferrari.

I dont see a stock or near stock 89 Cherokee running a 15 flat. Get us a video or something.

I've driven an 88 Cherokee before and it moved like a brick with an anchor on tar

Let alone one running on a bad fuel injector and shitty tires...

maybe he's talking about 1/8 mile? :dunno:

^^ That would be a hell of a trap speed for the time it took him to do the 1/8th lol.

It makes more sense considering how outraged he is :p

Maybe it is his trap speed in km. in the 1/8th mile ;)

you wanna post some of those timeslips? i have friends with 4.0L I6 grand cherokees and they are certainly not running 15's, then again they're automatics. ...and if the 4.0's are running in the 14's stock then what are the v8's running at the track?

I need more Nawz. Two of them. The big ones.

I hope the ricers don't find out that cherokees are fast. All we need is AEM stickers on all of the jeeps. I hat it when offroaders think they have to put a sticker from every part they installed on the car on the back window.

lamehonda

That one is good, but it's often on poseur jeeps that have a 29" lift kit and have never seen a gravel road.

00accord44

When I lived in Tallahassee I would see at least 30 lifted pickups and trucks a day. 99% of them never saw a speck of dirt road

I haven't seen too many places off road around here that I can't go in my suby. Sand is real nice.

Why did he put slicks on that car? He could dump the clutch at 18k and still not break the tires loose

lamehonda
09-12-2007, 04:20 PM
You WOULD have to be a complete tool to put slicks on a cherokee to punch it into the 15's.

VR43000GT
09-12-2007, 04:32 PM
^^ Wouldn't matter, even with perfect traction a 89 Cherokee is not a 15 second vehicle. I doubt it would hit a 15.0 starting the 1/4 from a 30mph roll.

lamehonda
09-12-2007, 04:41 PM
I am not that good at math to figure it out, but I would think it would probably be a low 16 sec truck from 30 mph.

well, speaking of cherokees, my friend had a 5.0 v8 one i think that was the liters. put a huge k&n typhoon intake on it, longtube headers, and a straight pipe exhaust.

just brake + gas launched it at the track, with the back seat taken out, and ran a 14.5. thing is a brick, but the launch helped him like nuts.

kinda like this

I think you are all missing the point.

The question is not "why did he put slicks on a Cherokee".

The question is:

Why did he waste his time bringing a 17 second Jeep to the track?

Polygon

You have to be kidding me?

There is NO way in hell you're going 15 flat in the 1/4 in a Cherokee. The 4.0L I6 is a motor with a lot of torque. It was made for pulling not hauling ass. :disappoin

I ignored this thread for a while. Two things: R/T doesn't matter in your time (aka you don't know what you're talking about), and your alleged trap speeds are too low for those times, maybe you were running the 1/8 or 1000 ft. definitely isn't a 1/4 mile. 1/8 and km/h sounds more believable.

GForce957
09-13-2007, 03:04 PM
psh, I think you all are just scared of those times he has and don't wanna mess with him. :grinno:

now that is the exact reason there talking crap! there scared to race the jeep beast!!

btw: i once took a 95 v6 camry to the track...ran a 16.7

2dr, 2wd, 5 speed cherokees aren't too shabby. This guys claims are a bit much but I ran low 16s consistently with my '93 cherokee 4 door 4wd with minor weight reduction.
Alot of guys in here don't know shit about jeeps though. Don't compare a 4.0 grand cherokee to a 4.0 cherokee.
