Blinking Cruise Light??

I have a 00 Monte LS. Once in a very great while (like once a month at the most) when I start up my car, the CRUISE light blinks rapidly. When it blinks, the cruise doesnt work. If I shut the car off and start it right back up it will not be blinking. Normally though, it works perfectly. What could cause this?
