I own a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria (an ex-sherrif car).....with a sohc v8 engine..i recently change my spark plugs and wires so ive fixed the jerking but i have an oil leak and i think my engine tends to burn oil really bad, the oil leak is on the top of the engine on the passenger side of the car and i run out of oil in like 2 weeks and my engine rattles when i accelerate and it gets worse as i drive longer and morebut no problems with power or speed...so if anyone has any suggestions as to what they think it may be..that would be great before i start troubleshooting myself or take it to a shop where they will probably rob me

Well, I'm no expert. But I do get the rattle in my car too, exept the oil leaks. I drive a 92 CV. And when I drive it for long rides or just push the gas down with force to often, my engine would start to rattle. But in time it would go away, but not all the time, so I managed to learn why the changes in noise through the time I owned my car. And it seems the only way to make the rattle calm down to no rattle at all is to decrease or lower the air intake when its idle, I move the air throttle on top of the engine back so less air would come in the valve, in time the engine noise will lower itself and then only when driven "calmly" or left to idle for a good while. This is how I solve my noise problem, it may be a different case with your car, but I do get the noise back in my engine when I accelarate too much with force. But I just let it cool down, then drive it in a calm manner, and in time the noise is gone. Give it a try. Hope I could help.

If it manages to run that low in 2 weeks you might want to get the leak repaired or do it yourself. Just from where its coming from it sounds like it might be the valve cover. The rattle, at this point, could be permanent engine damage due to running the engine with a really low oil level, try keeping it at the proper level see if it fixes the problem. Or you might just have excess carbon build up in combustion chambers try running higher octane fuel just to see what happens.

Yea..i was afraid it might be permanent damage but my grandfather was saying the same thing about the valve cover on that side..i really hope its not permanent damage..anyone knows the price of a brand new engine for my car?

V8, 4.6 L, 281 CID engine?

Brand new could be up to 6k. Rebuild one you could probably get one for 3k. One from a junk yard less than $1000. But before you go that far run some Marvel Mystery Oil through it, could help, and if the noise isn't that bad I'd drive it till it breaks down.
