don't know.....they just said it was bad and advised and against driving. Also said couldn't release it to me because of liability to his shop.
Understand part of that, but they also never contacted me to say they found more damage.....I'm trying to get this done as cheaply as possible as this is my only vehicle.

hmmm...you can get a transmission from $50-$250...i'd get it towed home and make a project out of it...but that's if you know what you're doing...but did you hit something...i'd personally go there and have him show me the damage and take pics

not that I'm aware of did I hit anything. clutch went out over the weekend and I think I'm having it towed somewhere else...as I don't have a clue how to do car repair. Gonna call around today to a couple of places that specialize in Hondas.

is it auto or manual? did he say where it was leaking from? if its just a seal, that shouldnt be that expensive to fix.

be wise dont let a shop rip u off because that will be a lesson learned and there is no way a shop can hold a car against ur will i mean how do u know the shop didnt screw up and trying to cover it up because a manual doesnt have tranny lines except the ss lines and those are hard to break. the only way the shop cant release the car is if u have an outstanding bill like maybe they charged to look at it and u agreed.. in manual the slave cylinder could have gone out and that would cause the leak sometimes it leaks inside the compartment check ur floorboard for fluid or get a light and look under the dash for fluid if so slave is out

just got off the phone with the shop. Said it was leaking from the casing. Have to replace flywheel and will know if it will run. Says thought it would, but might be rough. I am going to take it directly to a shop that specializes in Hondas to inspect the transmission to get another opinion

they said you don't see the damage til the clutch was off. Have been looking into engine swap sites for used tranny. Not to bad a price.

Probably the seal on the input shaft, not too big of an operation but may just be easier nowadays to get a new tranny and hope its good. Oh and btw, our cars dotn have a slave cylinder, they are cable actuated.

Didn't see the damage until the clutch was off, but the leak is from the case??? Definitely take it to a different shop, sounds like they are giving you some BS to rip you off. The flywheel is bolted to the crankshaft, the clutch sits in between the flywheel and the pressure plate, and the pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel. So either your transmission case is leaking (which has NOTHING to do with your clutch or flywheel), or your crankshaft seal is leaking.

yeah! I think they mean well but are yanking my chain. I'm sure there is a problem with the tranny due to the age of the car, but I want someone else to look at it cuz my feelings for this shop are running thin. Understand they are trying to warn me and I do appreciate it but........

they finished the clutch and I am curious about if the condition of the flywheel would indicate the amount of damage that might be on the tranny.
They are now saying that down the line I will need transmission work. Which makes me wonder if a shop that a lot of tranny work would do a diagnosis so I know the actual condition

99% of the time, manual transmission leaks are from the axle seals. They are $10 seals at Honda. Don't let this shop rip you off. I'm here to tell you that everything up until this point that they have told you is BS. Apparently, they don't even know how a transmission works, as it seems from you you have mentioned that they said. They are not your friend, nor do that want to help you. They want $$$ and $$$ alone. They see some individual who has a limited amount of automotive knowledge and who is eager to trust someone.
The car is safe to drive. Have them flush the transmission fluid and top it off. Nothing more nothing less. Do not let them swindle you into performing other services for your car that you did not authorize. Be VERY clear about this. Drive the car home, jack up the front end, and lay under the car. You should visually be able to trace the leak and it's source if there is indeed even a leak. There is a limited number of places that the transmission can even leak from. And depending on where it is, it may just be cheaper for you to just install a used transmission as the price of a rebuild can easily cost you more than the car is worth. I have a feeling that if there is indeed a leak, it's one of those $10 axle seals I mentioned. If you can't do it yourself, then you can at least save your self alot of money just having someone replace a small seal. You'll also appear more educated and they will be less inclined to rip you off.
Who knows....they may have just took and oil can and squirted oil onto your transmission to give you the impression that there is a leak. Automotive shops are some of the most GRIMY businesses in the world. Trust me. I used to work for a import performance shop locally. I quit due to their business practices. I couldn't stand to see people getting ripped off regularly. Most other shops aren't any different. A dealership can be the same way...however, they're usually more genuine and honest...but you're going to be paying for that honestly with higher labor costs.
