How many seats does a McLaren F1 have?

I always thought there was 3. I think in a movie I downloaded it said there was three.

You're correct, there are 3 seats, one in the middle for the driver then one on the left and one on the right for some very lucky passengers.

Man, that would be one sweet car ride. Does anybody know what the speedometer goes to. I am sure it will go up over 200 mph.

the 200 mph on the mclaren speedometer is where 35 is on my truck, i would kill for one.

it goes to 240 mph and 380 kph. i think thats the only car i can think of that can go faster than the speedo goes up to....

No my friend, my 1994 Chevy Lumina goes at least 95 and the speedo only goes to 85...i rule.

Answer to Speedo question. The Speedometer goes up to 390 km/h,or roughly 230 mph. I saw the movie with Gordan Murray (or was it Andy Wallace) but anyways he did 391 km/h with a digital Speedometer. It makes things much easier. BTW, the Speedometer unlike most cars, goes 3/4 around the whole gauge, which is much better than increments of 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, etc. cause who spend most of thier time at 200 km/h anyways?

sorry, about the needle thing, i kinda meant something else though. Porsche, it was Andy Wallace that drove the F1 to 240.14 mph. the speedo does go to 240 mph and 380 kph.the speedo wallace had was digital, the normal speedo isn't digital

Ya, I know it's analog, but according to you, it goes up to 240 mph, but only goes to 380, I thought it would go to the full 390. Cause 240 mph is 384 km/h so I figured it woul have gone up more.

i have a picture of the F1 speedo. 380 kph is the highest it goes, i'm sure it can go faster, but thats all it goes to.

I had one kicking around in my McLaren folder. Had to shrink it down for size reasons. The original 1600x1200 clearly displays the top MPH speed of 260, and the KMH at 400. Not too shabby.

I think you referring to the Ameritech F1's that were brought to the states as a 1 seater in order to be legal for the show and display license.

Snowboarder...you are slightly mixed up. Ameritech brought the cars in before show and display. They imported them as "kits" into a free trade zone port and slapped their own VIN numbers on them along with the McLaren VIN numbers. They also removed the two side seats and made them into "single seater kit cars" but of course the people who bought these cars immediately put the seats back to the original configuration.

The Show and Display is an exemption category that allows cars to be exempt from DOT FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) requirements. They are not exempt from EPA emissions requirements, however. So the cars don't need to have any changes made, except perhaps to the engine management and exhaust systems Any McLaren owner who applies for a Show and Display exemption does not need to change the seat configuration in any way.

The Le Mans cars (there's five of these and they are called McLaren F1 GT) had only seat as well. The nearside seat area (right side when you are sitting in the driver's seat) houses the ECU, fire extinguishing system, and a large panel with various other switches and control and monitoring systems. I forget what's on the left.

Here's the breakdown of each type of car produced:

3 GT (roadgoing longtail) version. 1 in Japan, 1 at the factory, 1 unknown, possibly with the Sultan of Bruneii.

5 GT LM (long tail) that were actually used in racing. 1 in North Carolina, rest I don't know.

28 GTR (hard core! These were the ones raced at Le Mans). They are pretty hard to come by. A few belong to race teams.

64 (1 has been written off in a crash, numerous others lost to private collections, 8 have been converted to a GTR "look" with extra brake cooling and spoilers and front skirts--these are the most desirable ones--they have the comfort of the road cars and the better performance and looks without the discomfort and noise of the GTRs. Some of these have been converted to the GTR spec, or to a high downfoce package, with the fixed rear wing, high downforce package, better brake cooling through ducts or snorkels, etc.

Pink Floyd's drummer, Nick Mason, has a red example of these "GTR conversions", and it was in CAR magazine two months ago. :bandit:

Yup, that's the "Ameritech McLaren F1." The company is actually called Amerispec. Run by a guy named Dick Fritz. It's in Connecticut.

The bumpers, side marker lights, and seating changes were the only things they did, looks wise.:bandit:

I love the interior. The seats look like they have been dipped as if they are go-karts seats.

but they are very comfortable...

I have a go kart, but it only has plastic seats :( I wish I could get a racing seat in the frame.

so uh.....you only run 5.7 miles per hour??? my cousin was on my motorcycle and i was running and he clocked me around 20 mph and that wasn't a dead sprint either, haha. so the mclaren is only 13 times faster than me.

nother thing, in my new Road & Track they compared, well not compared just basically drove, a Porsche 959, a Ferrari F40, and a McLaren F1 and then he got to ride in an F/18 Super Hornet, pretty good article, i read it this morning

I always thought there was one seat in the F1, which turned me off the F1, so I went to a function in the UK, where there was an F1 on dispay, imagine my dleight when I found there was 3 seats :D- at least it means when I'm rich I can still have an F1 and be a family man, just as long as I only have one kid :p

You would probably be dead anyway. :( I am sure they owuld re-do it for you if you had enough money, as they are such rare cars and they have huge amounts of recourses.
