I was thinking about buying a gsx or a gs-t but i like the style of my car and my system and shit is all hooked up in it now so i really dont want to get rid of it. Do you think it is too much work to put a manual tranny in it? I think maybe i can find someone to do it for pretty cheap if i buy the tranny. I think it will only run me about 600-700 dollars.

It still wont be as fast as the stock gsx will it? BTW i have a 96 rs.

Also, what other parts will i need to buy when switching from auto to manual?

umm... your car is non turbo fwd. A gsx is turbo awd. Hell no your car wont be near as fast as a gsx. A 5 spd will make it a little quicker but not drasticly.

A VERY little bit if any. It will cost around that for just parts if you get lucky, but if you need to ask if its possible then you shouldnt probably do it yourself. Something like that would cost a fuck ton for labor. My advice: yank your system out and buy a car already manual and/or turbo.

What kind of questions are these? It's up to you. Do you want to? The do it. If not, then don't. It's your choice, not ours. Like anything, it all costs.

If your asking, you do not have the experience to accomplish the swap. But hey! whatever floats your boat take care of your own car, and if you can do the work.. have a grand time with all of the days it takes you.

The questions that you need to ask yourself is what do you want the car for. Do you want to go to the track and drag? Or are you a light to light or do you roll race? From a dig an auto will kill a manual all day long, if you build it. Good gears, torque converter and a built auto and its a beast all day long. The only downfall is that even a good system like that isnt good for downshifting in a roll race. IF you have stock gears rite now..change them out and see the difference..it will be amazing I promise.-Shane

In a standard tranny I know you can swap out 2nd gear from a GVR4 for it to be taller, but I never heard of change any other gears let alone in an automatic... Care to go into more detail Shane361?

Uhm..sure I can brake it down more. The gears...REAREND. You want to get MORE power to the ground in your auto..the rear gears are whats holding the auto back. I had an auto GT and went to 4.10 gears, built the tranny and had a 2800 stall torque converter. In my 04 Cobra with 600rwhp I am happy with where the gears are even though its a 6 speed. If I lived closer to the track I would wish it was an auto-Shane

Question is... Can you drive a standard good? Some people prefer a automatic so they don't have to shift while on the quarter mile, because they think it saves them time. But I think it would cost more to make it fast like a standard... Right? I'm just saying what I've heard. My friend owns a Prelude automatic, and it's pretty fast. I mean I own a crappy 95' Gs Eclipse, so most cars will be faster than mine but. He runs low 14s with his 92' Prelude, but he also did a h22a swap.

Its really not about driving skills. Its just fact that one is faster than the other. Auto isnt as much fun, but do you want to have fun at the track or win. Not that the thread starter is all about the track or light to light. Like I asked..what do you do you want. It aint cheap to build a tranny, install REAR gears and buy a TC but it is the best route. Also..higher HP cars cant even have manuals cause they cant hold the power. Not talking a measly 500whp either. Hope this helped-Shane

Shane, Shane, Shane... calm down there buddy. Here's an interesting little fact about FWD cars: there is no rear end. I think Thor just got a sig quote :grinyes:.

The whole manual vs auto thing can be debated all day. Sure the auto will be more consistant, but I bet that unless you are running blazing fast times, auto and manual cars will be just about indifferentiable time wise once the manual drive has had a little seat time. Besides, unless it is a dedicated 1/4 mile car, who really cares? I would way rather be putting down a little bit slower times and having more fun and having something to work on rather than just sitting down and pressing the gas, any half wit can do that.

I'm kewl bro really. :sunglasse Yeah..FWD cars...fwd gears..I do assume you guys still change them out as well rite. I'm just a domestic guy even though I love some imports. In many applications as you mentioned no it really doesnt matter. But if you talking alittle more serious then yes there is a best route. We had a guy on SVTPerformance get bent out of shape cause all his life he heard autos were for sissys and manuals were faster. He is 17..and just had a book thrown in his face and he didnt like what he read. It would be safe to say if your pushing a couple hundred hp(rear or front:grinyes: ) do what makes you happy. I would love to take the 6speed out and my IRS with a heavy duty auto and solid rear end. But..the 6 speed is really fun at times as well. -Shane

Hmmm I'd have to agree with Thor on this one since the car in question is FWD. lol We were both on the same page, just different books... lol

Of course this does make me wonder now what the gear ratio is in the rear end of the AWD's...

Thor06

Ha ha, it happens man :). We cant really change out gears in FWD or AWD unless we change the ones in the tranny and a) theres not really any other gear ratios to throw in there and b) it would be expensive as hell for a close ratio gearset. And brian, you cant play with rear ends in an AWD because then the back ones will be spinning faster or slower than the front ones... that would be like trying to run down the sidewalk with one leg going faster than the other.

Right, I'm not a complete retard. I figured thats how it would be, but I'm just wondering if anybody actually makes matching gear sets for the front and rear on the AWD's... Ya know... Just something that poked at my curiosity...
