98 Neon

98 Neon that will only go 10mpr and the engine sounds like it's going 100. could this be the speed sensor?? This car does have over 150000 miles on it.

From your description it sounds like you have an automatic transmission, and its staying in first gear, and not shifting up to 2nd, 3rd, etc. The first thinkg to check would be whether there was the right amount of transmission fluid in it. If it has fluid in it, does the fluid look to be a deep red? Or is it a brown color. This would indicate it needed the fluid changed. If the tranny is really stuck in first, changing the fluid may not fix it....but it is cheaper and faster than the next steps.
Does the shifter lever move normally, and will it go into reverse and into park and neutral?

Yes it has a Automatic. The fluid checks ok,itwill go into reverse,park and neutral ok. I left it overnight in a city 25 miles away and hauled it home the next day. Got the car off the trailer and drove it down the road and the speed was ok. So I don't think it's the speed sensor now. Going to change all the filters today. Thanks for the reply
