help asap please!

hey, i have a 2000 honda civic hx and the check engine light has been on for a while with no noticible problems to the car. i took it to a mechanic and he said the intake needs to be cleaned out which could cost upwards of $600 is there anyway for me to clean it out myself or any cheaper way to do it? any help would be helpful! thanks!

you could go to you local automotive store and buy some intake cleaner and spray it out if its the intake manifold as well or you could pull off the IAC sensor and do the same its quite easy really
