Struts and Spring

I just had my car looked at by the mechanical at the chevy dealer ( had best price for inspection + oil change)

And though inspection they have come to the conclusion that I need new struts and springs ( for the front) which they said about $1000 for parts then $400 for labour ( all cad pricing)

Now I need to know what are the signs of these needing replaced
I will be driving back home at the end of the month- from BC to ontario-

Normally I would do the work myself but where I live right now I have no tools nor do I have a palce to do the work, although I could just do it on the road.

All that I get right now as sign of a problem is if I turn all the way right or left then back the other direction I get a bit of a thunk noise in the front. And I also get a bit of a thunk sometimes when breaking.

Thanks for the help in adavance

Push down on the front of the car. It should come up and not continue to bounce. Unless you are having a problem you can drive it home.
