My buddies car is a 96 2.2, 5 speed, and the code I pulled is the Crankshaft Sensor. Where is it on the motor, my Chiltons manual isnt saying, and how abouts do you replace it. THanks

haynes manual is pretty useless to, it says its "mounted to either the front side or the back side of the engine block, depending on engine type"
as far as the process goes it just says to disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor, then remove the bolt from the crankshaft sensor and remove the sensor

But where is the sensor and what does it look like?

Directly from my Haynes manual: On 1995 through 1999 engines, look for the CKP sensor directly below the ignition coil assembly, which is also mounted on the backside of the block. From the picture it looks like the only sensor held in by a bolt. Should have a purple and yellow wire running to it. HTH:wink:

Is the ignition coil all the spark plug wires go into?

Yes. Before you go and replace the sensor, that codes does not mean that the crank sensor is definitely bad. For some reason, the computer is not seeing what it expects from the crank sensor, hence the code. What you need to do is make sure that all electrical connections from the sensor to the computer are good, and that there is voltage at the wires when the ignition is on. A bad electrical connection can cause the same problem as a bad crank sensor.

hmm, mine is #38016 as well but its certainly not the same book, mine says its for 95-2001 models though so i guess that changes a few things

Alright the exact code got from the scanner is P0335, something about Crankshaft Position Sensor A Malfunction I presume, if someone wants to double check? I looked today and couldnt find anything with purple and yellow wires.:P
