how much boost is it safe to run an unmodified 1989 240se on? is it even safe at all? bout how much power could be obtained without extensive modification to the engine?

the ka24e motor can be stout. do a compression test and make sure your with in specs.
as for boost i wouldnt boost past 10psi on a old motor w/o proper fuel managment.
as for safty get a wide band and knock light and then tune . go conserivative with timing and you should be fine.
power depends on the turbo size and boost level. 200-230whp is and easy goal.
