Lights out?

Hey everyone, I just disconnected my battery recently to take it off and charge it. The headlights and everything were working fine, but when I put the battery back in the car none of the lights came on, not even the dome light. The only ones that worked were the blinkers. Even the brake-lights were out.

I checked all the fuses in the glove box and they're fine.

I don't think there's anything I forgot to hook back up to the battery, there was only the one positive and negative cable.

The car is a 1996 Buick Century with the 3.1L V6. If anyone knows what could be causing this please let me know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!:banghead:

Does the car Start? If your sure that you didn't over look a connection to the + Battery terminal that supplies 12V to the lighting and other items in the car. Get a 12V test light and check for Voltage on both sides of the "Fusable Link C" In this pic. It may be blown? If the car doesn't start at all, and your SURE the battery is fully charged.....Check all the fusable links for voltage on both sides of them.

Yes, I'm sorry the car starts and runs ok(with the exception of a vacuum leak) but that has nothing to do with the lights.

I just don't get why everything else would work, such as the radio, blinkers and gauges, but the lights don't.

Actually, if you had blown a fusable link...It does have something to do with the headlights AKA....No power to the inside of the car.

Since the car starts:

1 Inspect Headlights - Headlight bulbs burned out

2 Inspect Headlight Switch - Faulty headlight on/off switch or circuit.

Since the odds of both your headlamp bulbs burning out at the same time are slim (Turn the headlight switch on and check both bright and dim settings to see if they work at all).

I'd say that you have a bad headlight on/off switch or the headlight circut itself has a problem (Blown Fuse or wiring). Use a 12V test light and check for voltage on both sides of the headlamp fuse circut in the fusebox (With the fuse in) If you get voltage on both sides of the fuse.....Time for you to pick up a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for the correct wiring diagrams for your car.
