Hello everyone,
I have a 1997 Tacoma and recently it has gotten to where it just goes dead suddenly. It just loses fire. As long as I am in the Start position cranking on it, it will run but as soon as I release the ignition key to the On position it usually goes dead again. Sometimes, if I stay on the ignition long enough to grind the starter a second or two, it will stay runing. (Ouch, says the flywheel or bendix) It started a few weeks ago and It only happened once then. But today I went to the store and on the way back, it went dead going down the road, I restarted it (Grinding on the starter) and got home but as soon as I got in the driveway, it went dead again. So its getting worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I changed the ignition switch and it wasn't that. It's nothing that gets hot like i first suspected because when i got in it this morning, it started and before i could put it in reverse to leave, it died. Also lose all accessory power.(Sigh) Wouldnt restart either. Any suggestions would be Great.

Check the circuit opening relay. It is located behind the instrument cluster.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Does the circuit opening relay just run the fuel pump or would it make me lose all accessory power as well? Radio,AC etc....? I will check it ASAP regardless because I trust your opinion. I just wondered.
Thanks again

Just fuel.

Then what would cause me to lose Accessory power and fire to the engine suddenly after cranking? Any more suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

There could be a problem with the charging system, or you could have a problem somwhere in the wire harness. The only way to know is to tear into it.

Hey man thats great. Thanks a Lot. I also heard there was a Power relay in the fuse box that I need to check along with maybe some corrosion.
