my 89 camaro has just been smogged and was tagged as a gross poluter (in Ca. this is almost certian death) . The "NO (PPM)" level registered at 2313 the max limit is 785. I have already changed the EGR valve and the problem seems to have gotten worse. Can anyone help???? P.S. there is 225000 miles on the engine.

Holy crap!
I'd give it a tune-up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air filter...etc) and get a new catalytic converter and try it again, at the very least.

I have already done the tune up, (never smog without it!) but the cat is less than 2 years old could it be worn out already??

Its a possibility, but it shouldn't be. Did you get any type of warranty with it? There's really no way of telling if its crapped out or not without hacking it off and looking through it.
Other than that, sounds like something isn't working on the vehicle...couldn't tell you what though. Last time I failed, it was because of the cat...

Thanks for the info!! I will take the car to the muffler shop and get a new one. If that doesn't work I'll start looking up crate motors on-line.
