recently bought a 2002 intrepid and the tranny will shift down into sencond when slowing down and not shift out. if you spot and turn the car off and back on it is fine and my not do it again for some time. had a buddy of mine hook it up and it says 1st, 2nd shift silonoid is "sticky". i changed the fluid and used the +4 like your suppose to. how long do i wait to see if it clears up???? he said its no big deal just drive it but i am leary of it.
i have been told they are located inside the bell housing??? not sure.
and the check engine is on??? could i maybe get lucky and it just be the speed sensors bad????

Is it the original tranny?, beacause sometimes when we replace a tranny with a j-yard one, a solonid will be "sticking". Drive it for a bit, if it still is happening id get the solonid replaced. If your motor is the 2.7 id just sell the car. The check engine light will go on probably beacuse the computer is telling the transmission to shift and its not beacuse the solenoind is stuck. Your not going to ruin anything driving the car like this thou. I might get the computer codes checked too. Im pretty sure autozone will do it free.

yeah its the original tranny. i had a mechanic check the codes and it said it was the 1st-2nd shift solenoid. another mechanic said some times the speed sensors would through the code too giving the computer a false reading.
i reallly need to know where the shift solenoid is located.... the speed sensors is an easy install i found a pic on the location of them but i cant find nothing on the location of the solenoid.

Personally i dont see how the speed sensor would trip the code..:S But the solenoid is in the transmission, I dont know ur skills but i would probably leave it to the professionals, or live with it.

i have never been the in the throttle body of a newer vehicle i have been in 350 and 400 turbo's rebuilt them.
i just dont know if i want to tackle this cause if a spring fly's out i will not have a clue where it goes unlike the old tranny's. i cant find a break down for the tranny no where on the net.
