What can I do to increase the HP of this vehicle? I have never tried to "upgrade" a vehicle before so I'm not really sure what to even ask.

Its not cheap for upgrades.
A Cold Air Intake and custom exhuast are usually the first two someone does.
They are the cheapest two too.
Around $100-300 for a CAI and up to $300-350 for a custom exhuast.
But if you have plenty'O cash then you can look at this site, he's got performance heads, intakes, PCM upgrades.

You can also check out this site. They have an Alero section.

PFYC.com has the DHP re-programmed PCM modules. As JC mentioned a must to take advantage of intake and exhaust mods. Also, one of the best mods for the GM 3400 engine is headers with a hi-flow CAT convertor. Quarter mile times will improve as much as one second or more. As soon as my son gets some windfall funds we plan on doing the upgrades.
Other good mods is the APoC polished and ported upper intake manifold which you can get powder coated. And the RSM Racing 62mm throttle body.

No problem!! :D
Yeah I realy dont like his CAI, it's kinda lame just a hose and a filter ....
Fleabay has them too for under $100 usually ;)

Not a bad deal considering the K&N filter runs about $80+.
They Do have a cheaper model(without the K&N) just a generic cone filter.
I have the one pictured above on my GA GT, work great!!
My SE , I bought one for years ago, and paid over $300 for it... :banghead: :runaround:

Hey Bob you dont know anywhere cheap to buy headers for the 3.4 do yea ?
Header Mania is the only one I know of right now :(
http://www.headermania.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?
Also RSM is Now Z-Spec....
http://www.z-spec.com/
PFYC did have the 62mm TB's cheaper then Z-spec/RSM by about $100.
Have noticed over the past 2 years parts are becoming harder to find.

what is a re-programmed PCM gonna do for me exactly, and is it just plug and play or will I need to do something to get the vehicle to accept it?

It is "plug and play", BUT...
You will have to do a relearn proceeeedure to get it up and running.
Then you'll need to take it to a shop that can tune it up.
This is all coverd in the accompanying documents when you buy the PCM.
The best way to tune it would be to buy the DHP tuner but its priceY!!
I think they sell that at PFYC also.
It allows you to adhust A/F mixture, timing, KR, shift points, rev limiter etc etc.
I've been meaning to buy one of these dhp's before they jack up the price.
My GT needs a Boost :(
