I'm new to this site, I 'm amazed at the high quality builds and the great people on this site! Which brings me to post this build. Not my high Quality mind you but the great people. One of them, I'll not bore/sicken you will the high praise of Steven, AKA Klutz_100. I'm sure most of you are aware of his unselfish generosity.
Anyhow, awhile back I sent Steven some wrapping wire he had needed. Shortly after I recieved a package from Poland. Amongst other goody's was a Fiat Abarth 695SS. (No Kielbasa, darn!) This was my first Tamiya car kit. I've built Tamiya armour for years but never a car kit. This will also be my first non Drag Race car.
Enough blah-blah!!
And with being new and old the photo's are giving me problems. Photos soon, maybe?
Thanks again to Steven! He was sitting in a airport somewere in Europe helping me thru this!!!
This will be a pretty straight forward build. The majority of work will be on the body. I have already put on the flares and primered abit.
After blending in the flares I decided to put on a "aero" package.

Hi Dan!
Do you have a photobucket account? You'll need one to act as a host for your photos. It's very easy, if you have problems let me know.
I am eager to see what you have done with this cutie!
S
PS You get Kiełbasa and Wódka next time ;)

:banghead: Now that I've adjusted my brain cells!!runaround
I painted the engine cover to see how the color would look. This is dupli-color rattle can. Due to a house remodel I don't have the space in the garage to set up the air brush. I like the color however the vents and licence plate mount has got to go!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0242fiatrear2.jpg
Smoothed out the engine cover and removed hinges. Test fit to start the prop braces. Started "aero package" on rear.

I love the aero pack in front, (it was a radiator cover in the 1000 Abarth) but TBH not in the tail.... well we'll see done.
But, do you widened well arches?

Thanks Gio, This kit has a oil cooler hanging under the front. I'm moving it up into the front air dam. TBH I don't know if the 695 has a radiator! I "assumed" it was air cooled like a VW?:uhoh:
I will blend nose piece into the flares, rear aero is still questionable. May or may not use it.............

Yeah, Stevenski's pretty great, isn't he?
Cool, another fun build of the 695. A tiny but really fun little kit.
As Gio said, the boxy 'aerokit' often seen on the nose is more to enclose the oil cooler than a spoiler. The open engine lid braced up like you have in this pic acted as a spoiler, and was all the aero aid usually added to the Abarth.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0246fiatrear.jpg
The 695 was aircooled (the curved enclosure on the left side of the engine is the fan), and the oilcooler was an optional 'performance' part.

What's with the roll-eyes already?!?! ;)
Nice styrene work, Dan. Do you have any ideas for the livery for this yet?

Thanks for the help guys!
MPWR, Yeah, Steven has his "Quality's":iceslolan! One being persuasive, I now have a new pile in my kit stash of models, Mercedes C-9, CLK-GTR's and Jaguars!
I cleaned up the front air dam with an opening for the oil cooler.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0249frontwairdam.jpg
I've been searching for a Weber carburator for it and decided to order a Super 7 for a doner carb.:uhoh:

Dan, I think RMoM have some very nice resin Weber carbs. You might want to check them out?

Steven, I was going to order from them. However for about the same price I can get the Super 7. :grinyes:
Hopefully the "livery" will be fun!:evillol:

Good choice, one of the 40 DCOE's in the 7 would be perfect for the 695. You'll just need to scratchbuild the intake manifold.
http://www.vizza-motorsport.de/media/produkte/34.jpg
But you might not need to order the whole kit. A number of people have built the Tamiya 7 kit here recently, and not used the kit engine parts. It might be worth an inquiry in the classified thread.
All right Stevenski, I take back my eye roll.

Teasing is a bannable offense on AF!! Watch out! ;)

Steven,
Oh, I'm not blaming you for my stash, lets just say you might have influenced the way it grew!:grinyes:
Bannable offence? If thats the case this will be a fun first and last build!

MPWR, Thanks for the photo and suggestions! After seeing all the Super 7 builds I've wanted to get one. I think it will make a great base for a project down the road.
I had ordered a Sakatsu Weber and stacks from Strada only to find that they discontinued the Weber.:frown:
I started on the intake awhile back. Haven't cut the runners yet, waiting to see the size of the Weber.

Little bit of an update. The bit about a straight forward build has gone out the door!:evillol:
I got the car lowered as far as it would go...
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_261fiatstance.jpg
Now the suspension all has to be redone to allow this lower ride height!:banghead: Started cutting out the rear suspension mounts.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0268chassiswcutsandputty.jpg
Filled all the offending holes:rolleyes:
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0270chassiswfilledholes.jpg
Started cleaning up the rear a arms, I have a set of coil over shocks I'll mount up.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0271rearswingarms.jpg
Covered rear seat area with .010 styrene. Mocked up a roll bar, I'll have to mount shocks to the rear struts of the roll cage, thru the floor.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff63/dan66460/100_0274chassiswrollcage2.jpg
Waiting for some "goodies" to come in for the brakes etc....
Comments and suggestions welcome!:iceslolan
