Hey all New here, have to say this is an informative site.1999 Grand Am, 2.4 L
I'am having problems with idle when I give it a little gas in park. The rpms will raise with the gas pedal but when i remove my foot the rev fall to about 700-800 then jump up to 1400 then will fall and jump up to 1400 again before it settles into a constant idle of about 700. It also idles very rough shakes steering wheel. I also have the check engine light on and the trac off light. the codes when read say misfire cyl. 2. Replaced the plugs no better. Also discovered leaky intake manifold, sprayed some carb cleaner where intake goes into engine and the car nearly died, i heard the intake are prone to warping causeing leaks , is this true, what are some things to try here ?? any help would be appriciated.

misfire if more likley to be a wire than a plug. Rotor cap and rotor are good to replace. The intake issure may be no more than a bad gasket. A good parts store w/ machine shop can check the flatness of your intake. A timing belt in a great start on a full tune up. The Saab is an interference egnine and it the belt breaks while driving, the value will hit the piston.

Yeah sorry haroldcalvert, the GA doesnt have a cap or rotor or wires for that matter on his 2.4L.

maximus600, might replace the boots they are cheap/inexpensive and go bad frequently.

I'd say check and clean the IAC for the rough idling, since you've covered all the plugs. Here's a thread for the IAC info....
Idle Air Control(IAC) Testing Replacing for 99+ (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=663849)

Hope that helps!
