Transmission prob need Help?????

I have a 1993 3.3 intrepid that's had a trans issue... The trans shifts OK but getting it into drive the first time is a different story... first i thought it was a pump but it will go into reverse rite away so it cant be that.. ...But when you put it into drive it hesitates some times only 45 seconds to 2 mins but will eventually click in then you're fine..... i already did a trans filter change so i figured it was a transmission control solenoid so i got it but i dint know were it goes ... so was wondering you're opinion on the prob thanks Derek
