Overhead console

I am new to the site and a new Jeep Cherokee owner. I have a 1990 4WD Cherokee Laredo and have several questions about the overhead console. First thing is how do you remove it? I would like to replace the headliner but am not sure how to remove the console. The second thing is the interior lights do not work when the door is open. The two front map lights both work but the two lights in the rear of the console do not. Are they supposed to come on when the door is open?

Take out the screw in the front near the windshield, and slide the console towards the rear of the vehicle. The bulbs may be burned out for the rear portion.
