I saw this story on 60 Minutes the other day and thought it was pretty fascinating.
It was about the dangerous and damaging industry of ship breaking.

CBS News Story, with a 12 min video (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/03/60minutes/main2149023.shtml)

I wonder what it feels like working next to these things.

Thats pretty awesome. I would be worried about some of those huge ships eventually tipping over. Bet that would cause one huge ass rumble.

I wonder if those big engine have turbos? I wonder if my front wheels could handle the weight of one of those turbos....I might be able to spool it by christmas.

Ship breaking is a very big business in India. Lots of money involved and very risky too. These guys dont use any kind of legit safety gear either, so you can imagine how bad it is... :shakehead:screwy:

I grabbed a few of those pic.s for my screensaver.

They see a market, and work it. Capitalism.

Still, I wouldn't stand under one of those.

That's a lot of scrap metal. I hope they recycle it.

Thats what they do... They recycle 90-95% of the ship. At huge environmental costs, I might add. :disappoin

Countries, such as Bangladesh, have no real steel resources to speak of, as a result, much of the country's steel actually comes from those ships.

If you haven't already, check out the CBS News video clip. It takes a few seconds to actually start loading (I thought it was not working at first), but tells you what I said and a bit more.
