Awesome weekend races

I had some awesome races this weekend and no they were not in my car. The 3 cars were a modded 1998 Z28, a 1999 Corvette hard top manual, and a 2007 STI. All the cars belonged to friends. After we went cruising and I had the chance to drive all 3 we took them out and did a few races. I will keep it short. First 2 races were 3 way from a light. Only the STI owner was driving his own car at the time and the first race it was pretty even honestly. The next light the Camaro was about a couple cars ahead with the Subaru bringing up the rear . The last race was only between the Vette and the Camaro. The camaro driver did not come too hard off the line (the owner can launch much harder) but it still came off about even with the vette. The camaro immediately pulled a car on the vette but the vette had made up much of that ground by the time 95 mph came. I have a feeling that in a quartermile it would be very close between the 2 of them. Anyway I was really excited and it makes me want a faster car.

thats an interesting group of cars your friends own. Its good to see that the domestics and imports can mingle together.

:1: I would've thought from a dig the STI would pull all of them, no? Were they all stock?

Well the Camaro was not stock and the STI was brand new and the guy was not dumping the clutch at high RPM. The vette is stock. The STI was a very different car from the other two (and the two of them are completely different). It had power for sure, and never got dusted hard, but it didn't get up and gallop the way the other two would. I was glad to get a chance to drive it. It was very strange that there was no give at the wheels, it was easy to bang into a gear if you didn't match the rpm pretty close and take it easy on the clutch. Its not like the camaro where you can just jam it into gear and it will just rip the tires free. The vette was easily the most civilized of the 3, I was surprised how smooth of a ride it had.

the 07 STi's are the best year for them. They have the longest gears ( more comparable to a EVO 6 speed ) well thats good that you get to drive different types of cars around. I still don't know anyone with a vette, and I always wanted to actually drive drive one and see how it feels.

I can tell you from experience that if you want a good race from a suby, you got ta dump that clutch like a mother. He will be destroying his new car like the rest of us in no time. The trick with these cars is not trying to slip the clutch like a honda. It gets VERY hot if you do.

Yeah I am sure that is true. The subaru was a really new experience to me. The fastest turbo car I have driven in my limited turbo experience. I am sure it could have put up a closer fight under optimal conditions, but then again none of them really were. I have driven the Camaro plenty of times, but the vette was honestly the most surprising car to me. Sitting in it you wouldn't expect much more than a prettied up camaro, but the driving experience is undeniable. Its so stable and smooth about it unlike the camaro. When you are going 100 in the camaro you feel like you are going 100 mph, when you are going 100 in the vette you only feel like you are doing 50. In any case it was an awesome time and none of the cars were a slouch by any stretch.

I really want a blue c5 zo6. Nice cars. I love the roofline on the old z06.

Yeah I am a fan of that combo. My friend has a silver one with lh/e and i think thats it at the moment. Sounds nice and is pretty quick. :naughty:

This vette was a hard top but not a z06 still a pretty good performance option.

what did the z28 and vette have done to them?

The vette had nothing done to it. The Z28 had a bunch of bolt ons on the engine a bad ass suspension, wide tires, eaton differential. I don't really know all of it, its pretty mild by Fbody standards but definitely faster than most cars that I encounter.

Well maybe it could have been driven harder or better, but in my experience...... the vette pulls harder once its off the line for sure, and in this case it made it off the line faster as well.
