pcm chip or not?

We have a 99 Z34. A few days ago the car began jerking, like in the tranny, and stalling, usually when turning. Diagnostics ran said maybe PCM chip. We don't know any mechanics and my boyfriend is insisting on taking car to dealership where I'm sure they will overcharge. Any ideas or suggestions?

Welcome to AF

Did you get the actual code that was pulled when the diagnostic was run? If you had the diagnosis done at a shop, "possible PCM chip" is a very vague, uneducated response. IF you had it scanned at A-Z or Advance, that cryptic info isn't suprising.

The diagnostics was ran at Goodyear and I agree, very vague response, especially since it cost $50! I was not there. My boyfriend, who knows nothing about cars, took the car. He says the guy said the car was getting power where it should but that the test pointed towards the pcm chip and that was beyond their scope of repair. I was infuriated when he came home without a definite answer and had spent $50. This is why I'm trying to seek help myself from men who know about cars.

For $50, they had better give you the exact code. IF you can get it, post it here, as it will help us help you.

Apparantly, the tech who ran the diagnostic test was an idiot. He wasn't there today and had noted on the invoice that the problem was a mass air flow sensor. After speaking to the mgr. of the goodyear, I insisted that he run the test again and give us a definitive answer. The test showed that it is in fact the mass air flow sensor and we just left the car there for it to be fixed, for $250 for the sensor and $20 labor. It would be really nice to know someone who repairs cars in our area who isn't out to rip people off. Every time something happens to the car, I have this pit in my stomach because I know I am going to be violated. Thanx so much for your help and for welcoming to your site. I will continue to post on this site because my getting ripped off everytime something happens may still help educate others on what their problems might be, as it seems to always be something major with this car!
