Please help this newbie... The emergency flashers on my 1996 Ford Taurus are NOT working (no clicking noise, no lights inside or out), but both left and right turn signals front and back are working fine. Husband checked the fuses which seemed fine. Could this just be a bad switch or something else? If it is the switch, could someone direct me to replacement instructions? :runaround: Do I just need to replace the switch to the emergency flasher button atop the steering column, or is it a problem with the multi-function switch on the side? Since both turn signals are working fine, I'm guessing this is a problem just with the emergency switch on top?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to remember having this problem with my 98 Taurus and I had to change out the turn signal relay that I believe handles not only the turn signals but the emergency flashers as well. Its located up behind the dash to the left of the steering column. If I recall you have to be on your back and get your arm all the way in behind the dash up near the top of the dash. Not sure how else to explain it. Its a small 2" x 2" box and its clamped into a snap clamp. Good luck.

Do you have a wiring diagram, and a test light or multimeter? Using the multimeter or test light, you can test the input and output of the hazard light switch and the multifunction switch. A wiring diagram will show what wires and connections to check. Making an enlarged copy of the diagram will make it easier to read.

I'm looking at a wiring diagram for your taurus and it appears that the hazard switch is part of the multifunction switch on the side. If i still had a scanner i post a picture of it for you. I woud recomend buying a hanes manual. There not the best things but there cheap and it will include the wiring diagram you need and instruction on how to dismantle the steering colum, hope this helps good luck.
