I've been searchin around a B16 or B18, either or just so I can get this sohc out my car and I finally came across a B18. Problem is the guy who is selling it said it was non-vtec. It has 90k on it and he is selling it for $700. Im stumped as to what to do so throw me some oppinions.

it kind of depends on what b18 non vtec it is, b18a, b18b. what exactly do you get for that $700.

my friend put a B18B in his civic hatch, and it's pretty fast even without the vtec. I believe they go for about $1000, so $700 would be a good deal.

I've seen the b18a1 go for less but that still is a good price provided it comes complete and isn't to torn up.

i am getting a complete b18a swap for $1100. thats with everything i need to swap it into my 4thgen

i say its worth $1000 if you get engine tranny ecu, but if its just the engine, i wouldnt pay more than $600

To be honest with you, I'm not sure which model the b18 is, the guy just said that it was a non-vtec. I will call him and double check when I get some free time to do so.

With it being a non-vtec engine, which options are out there in upgrading the engine? There are turbo kits, superchargers...etc out there but they ask that the engine have the vortec. I guess the overall question is, since it isn't vtec, what am I losing besides the obvious hp loss?????

The b18a1 is if I remember right either 124hp or 134 something like that but I am not sure exactly,dude you just need to do some research because depending just goto a search engine and type in the engine code you'll get more than you wanna look at.............OK here it is see took a whole five minutes:
90-91 b18a1
b18b1=130bhp@6000 121lb-ft@5000 redline 6500
92-93 b18b1
b18a1=140hp@6300 121lb-ft@5000 redline 6500
94+ b18b1=142hp@6300 127lb-ft@5000 redline 6800
So this maynot be dead accurrate but it is resonably close site is www.hondaswap.com

I think it's worth it. I have a b16 powered CRX. And I am selling it to buy a 5th gen hatch. Then I am gonna swap in a b18b. Even though the b16 has more hp, the b18 is better for FI. And that's what I'm going with. After I upgrade the internals, I am putting on a turbo.

I don't need no stinkin VTEC. :devil:

i dont get that. plz explain it.
as for the engine hp, hondaswap.com doesnt really know, they dont know the engine codes

90-91 b18a1 130hp
92-93 b18a1 140hp
94+ b18b 140hp or 142hp whatever.

you can do any thing to a nonvtec engine, that you could do to a vtec engine, cams, intake mani, tb, fuel rail, msd, etc...
with a b18a or b into a hatch, i think youll run mid 15s on street tires.
i personally dont think the b18a is a better engine for FI, i would go b18c or b16a.

the ls motor(b18a/b) is the perfect motor for a turbo cuz it has asuch a low compression ratio my frien jus ran a 12.39 in a 95 civic coupe on the 10 with a ls/ t3/t4 turbo on 11 psi, but if u really want vtec u can alwaqys get a bi6 or b18c1/5 (integra gsr/type r) head and do the ls/vtec conversion and that motor is more powereful than the gsr. peace:smoka:

I understand that hondaswap probably doesn't have perfect information,but it is a good reference point.I have yet to see a motor that in 90-94 made 130hp make the same power 8-12 years later anyway.Wear and tear,I seriously doubt my siRII is still producing the 170 it started with in 93,but I don't have a dyno available.In order to achieve the original hp you generaly have to go inside and freshen up or replace internals.Even SCC's eg civic made around 130(if I am not mistaken with the dx exhaust).Even with the bolt ons I don't think it hit peak original numbers.All I am trying to say is hp figures contain so many variables that it is hard to tell someone that this is the motor you want cuz they could go buy a b18c5 that looks immmaculate on the outside but is suffering powerloss and they're wondering why Joe Schmoe's b16 is blowin him away.

ok yeah the ls has a better comp ratio, but it has the worst rod ratio ever, you have to worry about breaking rods and the cylinder walls.

with the b16 you do have to worry about comp ratio, but you dont have to worry as much about breaking a rod or putting a piston through the cylinder walls.

if your running 11psi then you should build your block anyways, so if you buy aftermarket pistons, just order lower comp pistons and its all good. the #1 failure with ls's from what i hear is them breaking rods, i never really heard anything bad with the b16

how bout the b18a in my 90 Integra?
Anybody have any turbo experiences with this motor?
Would this be a good motor to turbo?
Any ideas on a price for a kit?

TIA

just bought a b18b for 850$ with 30K on it, its a good strong motor. Good for boost cause low compression
