What color smoke is it?
We need to know more about the car, is it turbo?
I would do a compression test and see how that turns out then narrow it down from there.
Could be as easy as a headgasket or turbo, or it may be the rings.

Blue smoke is oil burning. Shouldn't anything to do with the ECU being replaced. I would recommend a compression test. If everything checks out there then I would look more into the head. Maybe valve stem seals.

Or rings. A leakdown test can determine which.

Where did you get the ECU? If it didn't do it before you put in a new ECU, you may have the wrong one for the car, causing it to smoke. Although I don't know why it would make blue smoke, but that's my only logical thinking right now.
