83 Jeep CJ7, Black smoke on a rebuilt carb.

Hi All,
I just replace my carted 2-brl with a rebuilt. The problem is at high speeds black smoke comes out the tail pipe. At low speeds, it runs fine and lean. In addition, I have no power to my automatic choke connection. Any ideas???

I would check that the choke opens when hot. The electric wire probably heats up the spring so the choke will open.

I would eliminate the electric choke and put a cable on its place its more dependable. the choke is probably staying partially closed at full throttle and your dumping fuel but not getting enough air. Also check that the rebuilt carb is jetted for the application otherwise it will never run right.

I would follow the aftermarket cable replacement or installation.
