How much of FIAT does GM actully own? How much does this effect *if atall* FERRARI it scares me to think of a FERRARI suv state side a likely deep dark secreat at GM which simply can NOT happen.

Now, GM owns 20% of Fiat Auto and Fiat Auto only owns Alfa, Fiat and Lancia. The holding Fiat Spa doesn't belong to GM and owns Ferrari, Maserati, and some other pole (Iveco, airplanes, insurances, Internet, services, etc.).

But the Maserati Kubang designed by Pininfarina prefigure a future SUV Maserati ! :( Though, nothing to deal with General Motors.

GM-Fiat stock swap:
GM now owns 20% of Fiat Auto
Fiat owns 5.9% of GM and becomes the second largest shareholder in that corporation
Implications for GM:
Save costs by sharing platforms
Combined effort in emerging markets and sharing of factories around the world
Access to premium brands such as Maserati and Ferrari which are owned by Fiat
Access to advanced technologies developed by Fiat and its subsidiaries
Stronger presence in niche markets in Europe with Alfa Romeo (sporty) and Lancia (luxury)

GM may not own ferrari and maserati but the do have connections with them and on the gm website it says gm network FIAT ,not fiat auto or anything else

Ferrari and Maserati belong to Ferrari Spa- which are owned by Fiat Auto Group- as well as FIAT Spa

thank you but that still means gm has ties with ferrari and maserati

I'm not sure, but I think that GM owns 11% (as I said on another forum indeed, since early 2003) only Fiat auto Spa.
Fiat Auto Group owns Fiat Spa (which owns Alfa, Fiat and Lancia) and Ferrari Group (which owns Ferrari und Maserati). ;) Hope I'm not wrong :D

so dosent that mean that gm has ties with ferrari and maserati...............im alittle slow

Stefanel1

Ties.... mhhh, not really. GM owns 11% (that's not a lot) of Fiat, not Fiat Spa, the Holding.
And if you say that, you can say that every person wh has shares in Renault S.A has ties with Infiniti for example ! ... That would be very ambitious !

even if gm dosent own ferrari now, next year when fiat does that ''put'' option then gm will own ferrari :eek7: .........right?

Z06nutSS

ferrari and maserati belong to ferrari s.p.a. and FERRARI S.P.A. is basically a business name for the joined maserati and ferrari brands anyway farrari s.p.a. is owned by fiat s.p.a. and fiat auto and gm owns 20% of fiat auto + fiat s.p.a. (together) so that means that gm owns part of or has connections to ferrari and maserati

Z06nutSS
10-08-2003, 02:39 PM
even if gm dosent own ferrari gm 20% of stock gives gm access to ferrari

Stefanel1
10-08-2003, 05:25 PM
I told you my opinion, their 11% don't really give them access to this part of Fiat Group. But if you want to trust the contrary, you're free ! ;)

Z06nutSS
10-08-2003, 06:24 PM
im not sayin access like gm can go in and take the 360 modena engine and put it in a vette im sayin........well im just using the wrong words what i mean is gm just owns a little bit of ferrari and has access like to some technologies and stuff im not sayin you should call ferrari a gm company although u might if fiat does the put option but just like some of the banks that own other parts of ferrari gm is like those banks cuz they own a little bit of ferrari sence they bought that 20% of fiat in 2000.

and it does give them access to those parts of fiat i read a couple of those european newspaper articles and its alot less complicated than pepole r sayin gm didnt buy like 20% of just fiat auto they bought 20% of fiats auto making sections in general

It's too easy and I don't think that GM could economically speaking have an incidence on Ferrari Group. As Fiat won't have an influence on Cadillac for example.
And it was 20%, it was reduced to 11%.

Z06nutSS
10-09-2003, 03:53 PM
when did it ruduce to 11%, where did u hear that it will probibly be 100% if fiat uses that put option and makes gm but the rest of fiat's auto making companys but anyway i know gm cant make any decisions for ferrari but one reasion gm did buy that sock was to get a foot in the european market and to have a little recognition by saying it owns a part of such renown brands like alfa, lancia, maserati, and ferrari

what do u mean have an incidence on ferrari

Stefanel1
10-10-2003, 12:02 PM
I think that the main aim of GM expecting to buy Fiat Auto, is the economies that he could have done with the common platforms with Opel/Vauxhaull.
The recognition... maybe indeed, but I'm not sure that European people will make the link between GM and Fiat as it's not very important. We even don't make the link between a Nissan and a Renault in France (with 44,1% of shares) ! So 11%, it seems to be quite few, even 20% at the beginning. As Americans or Italians won't make the link with Fiat owning 5,9% of GM ;)
For the 11%, I don't remember the exact date, but I read that in La Tribune.

Z06nutSS
10-10-2003, 09:12 PM
well when gm buys the rest of fiats automaking subsidiarys then gm will probibly make it a point to tell pepole the link between them

Stefanel1
10-11-2003, 10:50 AM
I've the answer ! GM didn't sell 9% of its shares, but he didn't "re-buy" shares when Fiat sold more shares. So the share of GM in Fiat reduced automatically. Was I clear ??? ;)
So we were both a little bit right. ;) ;)

THANK U so what r u sayin i was right about the fiat using the put option to make gm buy the rest of fiat or gm owning a little bit of fiat in still kinda confused remember....i'm a little slow

Any one interested in discussing about how FIAT Auto can improve its sales? I wish FIAT survives and gives out some good products.

ZO6 : GM owns 9% of FIAT Auto Spa today ! That's clear, isn't it ? ;)

Vim 8 : FIAT is a big group. Auto with Fiat (which doesn't work very well but is going to be better with the current success of the Panda and Idea), Lancia (nor in very good health, but the new Ypsilon sells correctly, waiting for the replacer of the Delta in 2007, the most important sector in Europe, with Mégane, Golf, C4, Focus, Civic, 307, 147, etc.), Alfa Romeo (who sells very well with the wonderfull GT available for few months and the facelift of the 147 in October, and with a good future : Alfa 8C, big GT with a V8 Maserati engine), Maserati and Ferrari who are in an excellent mood !
But Fiat Group is also composed by banks, media firms, etc. etc.
So I don't think this big group will failed ! ;)

Thanks for the info.. Is there any other Italian auto company which can compete with FIAT??

Stefanel1

Fiat owns almost all the big Italian auto makers except Lamboghini owned by VAG (Audi Volkswagen).
La Fiat Spa is an huge group.
