Hows it goin guys? just figured i'd start getting friendly and getting to know you guys on this side of the (AF) world since im gonna start shopping for a DSM. I'm gonna want a 95-99...talon preferably, but i have a feeling i will end up settling for an eclipse since theyre so much more common.
a few questions right off the get-go...
A) any major mechanical changes from 95 to 99?
2) she's gonna be my daily driver...and while MPG isnt at the top of my list, id like to see high 20's or better. is this reasonable, and what trim will it limit me to?
c) Also, general reliability. I want something im really not gonna have to worry about. not saying im gonna neglect it...just dont want the paranoia my VR-4 gives me :uhoh:. Should i stick to N/A??
lastly...i am gonna need SOME performance. can't bear to go right from my TT to a ford taurus (so to speak). The only mods i may do are intake and exhaust...nothing to compramise ride or MPG. Does that limit me to a turbo?

A. Not really, just a few cosmetic changes in the bumpers and whatnot. As far as I know, everything mechanical is pretty much identical....just a little newer in the later models.
2. (Switched from letters to numbers? lol) High 20's are gonna be hard to come by on a turbo DSM unless they are strickly highway miles and you stay off the turbo. I barely get that in my N/A with highway/city mix.
C. The turbo cars CAN be reliable if you keep them stock and maintained. Otherwise forget it. N/A DSM's are pretty reliable, I haven't had any major problems yet in the 3 years of ownership.
If you want SOME performance, get a turbo DSM and keep it mostly stock. The N/A have very little in that respect, but with a few mods you can make it a littler quicker for cheap and still keep the reliability.

A) There are little changes between the the generations but nothing real big.
B) On my current setup minus the built head and built block I was hitting about 25mpg. This was a pretty good mix of highway/city driving and mild boosting.
C) N/A would most likely be a little more reliable just because it will have less parts to break and the motor won't be seeing boost. However, if you keep your car's mantinence up, don't go crazy with aftermarket parts, and don't beat on the car every time you drive it the car should be as reliable as any other car.
D) You should be able to put on a 16G with limited modifications. Plenty of people run a 16G on a sidemount/stock injectors/exhaust/intake/boost controler. The downside is you won't see as much of a performance gain with limiting your mods to just this. With just these modifications I wouldn't put bigger than a 16G on it.

so some spyders came with a 4g64 eh? is it worth hunting down? was it increased stroke, or just bored out?
how do the AWDs hold up to launching? The VR-4 transfercase is good for about 20 redline launches before talking a dirt nap. Those 20 will rip your freaking head off...but theyre costly to the drivetrain. DSMs hold up any better? not that i plan on beating on it...but should the need arise to impress a buddy...
well, you guys know how that one ends :evillol:
and, just for S&G...would a MIVEC V6 from a new eclipse bolt in there? lol

Increased stroke. My motor has the 4g64 crank and now has 2.3 liters of displacement.

The 4g64 is N/A, not turbo if that's what you were getting at, so as for hunting one down, you can, but it's not going to be hardly any different from the 2.0 N/A.

Good luck...I would piss myself if somebody pulled it off.
