2000 Alero Thermostat

I need to replace the thermostat. Is there anything I need to know before I start this project?

It depends. It would help to post whether you have the 3400 V6 or 2.4L.

It is a PITA to get to but a DIY job. It would help to remove the heat shield on the exhaust crossover which will give some extra clearance but it will still be tight in there. Some remove the throttle body but that is not necessary. Use proper tools out of a smaller tool set like 1/4" drive, etc. and take your time.

Nevermind, I took off the radiator cap and realized the service shop had not put it back on correctly and that is why it overheated :banghead: . Filled it back up, put cap on correctly and she runs perfectly now.
