Lincoln Ls Stereo Problems

I recently bought a 2000 lincoln ls after doing alot of research and i absolutely love the car

however, after a few days i noticed that the audio was kinda weak. Investigating further i noticed that only 4 of the 8 (i think) speakers were working, the 2 in the rear shelf, and the 2 on each side of the console. the speakers in the doors faintly work when the volume is turned up all the way, but only with your ears pressed right against them. My stereo is the alpine one with the 6 disc cd changer in the glove-box.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

Welcome to the forum!

Have you adjusted the fader to make sure it is not turned all the way to the rear?

Beyond that, you'll need to have a few tools to determine the problem. You'll need to remove either the deck or the front door panels to access the speaker signal wires. Preferrably, you'd have an oscilloscope and a signal test CD to check for signal coming out of the deck or getting to the speakers.

I don't have the wiring diagram for the 2000 LS, and I believe the 2002 (which I do have the diagrams for) no longer had the Alpine system, so I'm not sure where the amplifiers are and if the front door speakers have a separate amplifier from the rear deck speakers.

Thanks, all that doesnt mean much to me, im not that electronically inclined. My first hope was that it was just a fuse blown, but i dont even know where the fuse box is. Also, i assumed that there were eight speakers, am i incorrect? and if so where are the other ones. thanks again.

I'm not sure on the 2000, but there are probable one in each door (for 4), two subwoofers in the rear deck (6 now) and two center image speakers on the center console (for 8 total). If I remember by 2004 correctly, that's how it was configured. I also believe my 2004 had an amp for the four door speakers, one for the subwoofers, and one for the center image speakers.

Hi:
I have the Alpine stereo on the 2000 LS and noticed a similar problem when I first purchased the car. Turns out, the stereo has a setting to make the focal point of the sound come either from the rear, front, or normal. There should be a DSP button on the stereo. Look at page 53 on the following link, this is the service manual for the 00 LS. This resolved my problem. Thanks!

Ive done some research, and i have the premium sound package with "12" speakers. I checked the dsp and its off, turning it to driver didnt make the speakers come on either. Is there an external amp that powers them? Any more suggestions? Thanks!

I should also mention that when i turn the key to the on position, the door speakers pop, and then when i start the car, they pop after that too.

Hmmm, sounds like you're probably looking at blown front speakers.

I looked at the radio diagram for the 2002 model year LS, it shows that the front and rear door speakers are powered by the audio unit with an amplifier for the front center image speakers and another amplifier for the rear subwoofers.

If you happen to have a spare speaker lying around, you could temporarily connect it to the wiring for the front door speakers and see if it the spare speaker works.

are the door speakers wired in series? because its not just the front door speakers, but all speakers. I have a couple of 6.5" kickers and a set of 5x7 kickers that i was going to put in anyways. I'll try it. Thanks for the help.

So on your 2000 LS are there smaller tweeters in the door along with the midbass speaker, is that what you mean by "all speakers?" If so, then the tweeters are capacitively coupled in parallel to the midbass.

sorry, i could see why that post was confusing. By all speakers, i meant all the door speakers. Thanks for trying to comprehend what im saying, im not very good when it comes to electrical problems. The console and rear deck speakers work fine.
