Hi, I tried the search for an answer, and couldn't find any previous questions on this problem. So before I take it in to the dealer I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and was able to fix it on there own?
I have a 2005 T & C touring van with power side doors and power rear door.
The power side door on the driver side opens about 6 inches and then stops, then has to be opened the rest of the way manually. It's like when you forget to close the gas tank door and then tried to open the side door. The safety stops the door from running into the gas door. Also the same thing happens when the door is open and I try to close it with the power switch, it moves only about 6 inches and stops and then has to be closed manually.
Thanks for any help I can get on this problem. Ives

hmmm.... am thinking, if the fuel door is open the door should not open at all, it should just unlock the latch. Shut your door all the way and open the fuel door, try the switch. If it does open it points towards the switch. If it does not open maybe the problem could be a dragging or sticking door but in most cases the door would reverse to close, can you try to assist the door when it is opening or closing, this will help rule out the dragging or sticking, don't push to hard though. Being this is an 05 have you checked to see if its under warranty still? I've read alot about this problem and most times it is the door motors that is the problem.
You can open your door half way, there is a latch on the bottom arm that you can push in, its hidden but you will here a click when you got it. Now try the switch and see what it does still with the door half way open. You may also want to check the latch and make sure its adjusted right, but it wouldn't happen if the door was all the way open. I will check into more trouble shooting and post back.

Hi, I just tried it again and Yes, the door will continue to open if I assit it and the same with closing it. But after I help close it and try to open it again right away then I just hear a click from the switch I assume. And if I keep trying to open it all it does is click.
So then I started the engine and tried to open it again from the overhead console and it opened as before only about 6 inches. When the door is fully opened I tried the button on my key to close it and it started to close and then stopped. If I assit it it will continue to close completely.
I think I found the latch you mentioned. It is a little metal latch that moves toward the front of the van if it is pushed forward. The door does nothing when I push the latch forward. But if I pull on the door handle the latch returns to it's normal position and when I now try and use the switch on the console or my key I hear a click, but nothing happens. I just tried it with the gas door opened, it tried to open, but then it closed itself.
Then I again tried it with the gas door closed and now all I get is a clicking sound when using either the key to open the door or the console or the button on the center post. Now none of the switches will open the door just a click from all of them.

I would check the voltage with the car running to, do both doors do this? I am checking into this, right now mine is thursty for speed sensors.

No, just the driver side side door does this. Other door is working fine. I just drove it around the block in hopes that it would even open the 6 inches again. But now it just clicks and does nothing.

ok, then you more than likely have no voltage issue. Let me do some thinking and checking and will post back

I have been checking on this, read alot about it. I am going with the clutch being the problem. And sad to say the clutch and the motor are one piece. Just to confirm I called one dealer here and went to another, they both tell me the same. When the clutch is binding in the motor assb. it causes the motor to shut down because it doesn't have enough power to run it. Another way the clutch can be bad is that it doesn't release when you open the doors manually, which causes for a heavy door. I have seen these motors on eBay, some part out these minivans, which you can buy one from them and do it yourself, or have the dealer do the labor. They will not warranty it though. And last, I don't know where your located but here in FL. the dealers have high costs, I shopped around on eBay and found a dealer up north that was cheaper than here, example - 1000 here for a PCM vs. 600 up north for a PCM. You can go that route too. I have a name for a dealer if you'd like it, just let me know. Well, this is the best I can do for you and I hope it helps and is the correct problem. Good luck.

you need to replace the wiring harness for the door latch assembly. these are famous

to check this have the dealers connect the drb to the driver side power door module. is should be able to communicate with the drb and then manually open the door with the handle the drb will lose communication with the drb which means there is an intermittent open in the sliding door track harness, the part runs about 50-60$. This should be covered by the basic 3/36 warranty good luck

That is some good info too. I would think your best bet is to take it to the dealer and have them check it to be sure, that way you don't go replacing parts you don't need too. Good luck, and please post back with your find!
