Neutral safety switch out of whack, possibly because of the shift linkage misaligned.

That was my first guess but it does start in park and neutral. If it was out of whack would it still start in park and neutral. Is there a way to test the switch seeing how they are priced high and you can't return electrical parts.

Hi, I'm figure I would bring this thread back to life instead of starting a new one. I'm having the same problem. I have a 95 Grand Am Gt (love the car) with a 3100 v6. I was having a problem with it drinking anti freeze. I did some pressure testing and figured it was the intake gasket leaking. Well that was about 8 months ago. Before winter. I final got around to changing it. When I finished I went to start it. It ran OK (like it hasn't been run awhile and old gas) but when ever I put the car in reverse it stalls right out. Forward it moves but it seams to really be taking off. (like accelerating) I'm not sure if something could have happen while it was sitting? Like TCC sticking or solenoid going bad or getting stuck.
Can the torque convertor clutch go bad from sitting? The car ran great before I parked it. It was just using anti freeze. I'm going to trace out all the wires today and see if I may have missed something.
Does anything else control the tcc?
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks All Passnbyu
