grand am security light!!!!

Had trouble with my car not starting when the security light came on, this went on for over a year! Three weeks ago my key broke and i had no spare so i got a new key made at the hardware store for 1.25 and have not had the problem since!!! It's worth a try not having to wait 10 plus mins when trying to start the car.

I image you specific troubles was the key.
most that have security issues, replacing the key doesnt help.

Most of these issues I've seen were the ignition switch or the lock cylinder broke inside.

the ignition cylinder seems to be the only flaw i dont like about the grand am and besides my dash peeling up lol but yea the ignition cylinder is messe dup in mine i can start my car and drive around and my security light stays on its been like that for about 3 months now and the light is a tad bit annoying but u get used to it lol

The security system in the grand ams is flawed.... i owned a 99 gt for two years, and the security system had to be replaced twice..... its just a flaw in pontiacs design, there isnt really much you can do, unless you wanted to pay to have a new type of security system installed in it. example.... best buy sells a viper security system that replaces your factory one......

I wouldn't realy call it a flaw as much as operator error.

Mis-use of the Lock cylinder, excessive crap hanging from it, slamming the key in/out, being rough with it in general,
all will lead to its failure and security issues.

You will have the same thing if it was a 1970's metal lock cylinder.
