96 jetta stumble when accelerate, any ideas

Hi everyone,


Is there anyone sit in the similar situation about.
I have a 1996 5 speed Jetta III with 196K on it. It ran fine before I change the spark plug. This is the 2nd set of BOSCH plug because there is no need to re-gapped.
Right now, eveytime I accelarate, no matter what gear is, the car stumbled as if one of the spark plug is gone. 2 days ago, the CEL night was on and it said the #2 spark plug is misfired. I re-sit the spark plug and wire.

What I did :

1) It is a new set of BOSCH spark plug
2) Cap and rotor are new
3) Spark plug wire, not new. Looks OK.
4) I spray engine cleaner around the throtle control, fuel injector, gasket and intake manifold when the engine is idle, there is no change of the idle speed.
5) vacuum hoses are changed

Some one said may the the clutch need to be replced but I can drive 90 MPH plus.

Please advise any ideas and let me know what items I forget to check.

It sounds like you damaged one of the plug wires. I'd check there first.

I took your advice. Since the wire set is new, I start to check the connection between the distributor cap and the wire. This evening, I pull out the wire form the cap one by one and found out the #2 has arch (spark) but the other three have not. So I replaced the cap and have a test drive. It runs smooth and powerful without stumbling.

I thought if I see you post first, I may save some money and time, that is the most important.
