I finally raced another car worth talking about. Last night I at the local spot I spotted a nice looking 3000gt. Carbon fiber hood nice looking exhaust..etc Beautiful car. So I quickly jumped in my car and went after him. I caught up to him at a red light, but there was a car in front of him. After he agreed to race, he said he'd just follow me. So I just went to the highway. We just merged on the highway and there was no cars so I put it in second and gpt ready, but when he got up beside me he said he wated to go from a stop...:banghead: :shakehead Well, even tho thats not exactly what I wanted to hear, I said ok whatever. We quickly stopped and his buddy counted down 3..2..1...GO! Immediatly he got the jump on me(big surprise). I had a bad launch... I spun thru first horribly so I just shifted into second early. as I got tracton he was about 2 maybe 2.5 cars ahead. And to my surprise I started reeling him in. I passed him up and proceeded to put 2 cars on him before hitting 108mph and shutting down. After the race I talked to him for a little and he said he did have a little trouble going into third, but he admitted it would'nt have made that much of a difference anyway. He had exhaust, bov, and some other little stuff.
It was a great race! I'd love to run him again. He admitted to not being the best driver because he doesn't race alot, which was cool. He wants to line em up again sometime. I def didn't think I was going to win this one.
LOL I think the word is out on my car... before the race he asked me if I was the fastcavy he had heard about! I thought that was awesome.

good race
but with all that performance $$$ invested in that car, why do you still have the 108mph speed limiter enabled?

I usually only do 1/4 mile runs. besides, I still have the stock brakes, rims, tires, and suspension. The car doesn't feel very comfortable at 100+ mph speeds. Mainly because I don't have the $$$. So until I hit 108 in the 1/4 mile I"m not going to mess with it.
I also heard that if you do bypass the limiter and sell your car it is odometer fraud.

Pennsylvania... when you cut off power to the limiter your odometer stops counting the miles... therefore the mileage would in incorrect if you sell it you have to sell it as "mileage unknown" or it's considered fraud.
There might be another way to get rid of the limiter, but other than using HP tuners I don't know.

I had my speed limiter removed and my odometer still counts the correct miles.

I have my limiter removed, and damned straight it kept counting miles. I wish it hadn't. Just have it removed with programming or something, and don't cut it.

What kind of cars?? I bet it wasn't a cavalier. I only know one way of getting passed the limiter and I would have to install a a switch and flip it right before I got to 108. after I flip the switch I'll lose my speedo and it would count the miles.

lol youve never heard of Hptuners? Hptuners has tuning software out that lets you fully tune your car. Everything from timming, spark, fuel, injectors, SPEED LIMITER, rev limiter, Map tables, VE tables, anything GM can do, you can do.
I find it hard to believe you were smart enough to put a turbo on the cavalier, one that is pieced together from another car, but dont know what Hptuners is. Its pretty much the godsent of the Jbody, the holly bible.

Dont you have any friends with HPtuners or someone in your area that can tune it? It only cost 2 credits or 100 bucks for someone to tune it.

I drive a trailblazer (GM). The speed limiter is not a mechanical thing it's part of the ECM. Maybe not in a cavalier. You should save some money and get on a dyno. I bet dollars to doughnuts your leaving alot of power on the table not tuning for that turbo.

I wouldn't bet. I know for a fact he IS not getting the most out of that setup without having tuned. He is also playing with fire. One bad batch of fuel and WOT and he could be looking at some cracked pistons, ring lands, or even some bent rods.
Also, I just don't see why taking the rev limiter off would keep the odometer from metering the mileage. They are unrelated systems.

using the method they're talking about requires disconnecting the vehicle speed sensor, which is needed for the speedometer and odometer to work

Who said I didn't have it tuned?... Check my sig. I have the gm reflash. So it's not like I'm running around untuned... Actually, it's quite the opposite. The reflash not only runs a little on the rich side, but also pulls timing. Both of which decrease detonation and increase reliability.
I'm probably not getting the most power that I could be getting with my setup, but that is because I would rather have reliability... This car is my daily driver with 71,000 miles. With me going to school now instead of working I'll probably back off a little and take the boost down to 6 or 7psi.

Ahh, I was misinformed. Acorn42047 had mentioned that you had no tuning done. However, getting it seriously tuned on a dyno will give you more power safely. It's good that you're smart enough to run a little on the rich side. :)

Ok my bad. What I meant was that When he got the tune why didn't he have the speed limiter removed. I live in hawaii my tuner is in michigan when I sent them my ECM/TCM I called them with changes i wanted done to my ECM/TCM, shift points, torque management, speed limiter setting etc. Not only that if I don't like something or get a new mod they will adjust my tune for FREE. If your tuner doesn't offer this I would consider changing. Now I understand the daily driver downside but to me putting the truck down for a couple days for shipping is worth the increase in horsepower. If you want info on my tuner shoot me a PM. I didn't mean to flame you. It just seems like something with your ride isn't totally what you want. Just tryin to help you out.

No problem. When you get the reflash from GM they can't just hop into the computer and change anything they want. It is exactly the same for all the cars that have it. The computer for my car is completly bitchy/retarded... There wasn't many tuning options for it until HP Tuners came out, but nobody in my area has it and I don't have the cash.
I'm completely happy with how it's running right now. As long as I'm beating cars like Twin Turbocharged 3000GT's!!!!! along with too many V-8's to mention.
I can't afford another speeding ticket anyway. I'll lose my license for a year! So maybe the limiter still being there is a good thing after all. They don't like when you have 11 pts on your license! lol
Everything kinda on hold for a 2 years till I get out of school... But I still have a few "small" thing in mind that I'd like to get.

your using the GM supercharger tune? Man you are losing tons of power then, even further more you cant tune the PCM once you put GMs tune on it, it uses a different language than what Hptuners can use. So if you want a custom tune now, you need a new PCM.
But your are losing a ton of HP with a GM tune, id imagine with a custom tune you could easily pick up 20 reliable HP. Dont think because GM wrote the tune that its reliable. Gm tunes usually have more knock than a custom tune especially between shifts. GMs way of tunning is to dump massive amounts of fuel and hope for the best. Not really a good idea when it comes to HP. Trust me when i say, GM tunes are crap.
You also need to remember that the VE tables and just fuel maps alone are completely wrong for your car. Your using a tune that designed for a supercharged motor, just because they make similar boost numbers, doesnt mean its a good idea. The supercharger tune is designed for low to mid power. That means down low and mid range your running even more rich than if it was supercharged, and also losing just a ton of power.
You ever hear of washing the cylinder walls? This occurs when a tune is too rich, there is so much excess gasoline that it will actually wash the oil off the walls of the cylinders. leading to premature ware and eventual engine failure or possible seize up. Running to rich can also flood the oil with gasoline deluting it and causing even more premature ware on the rest of the internally lubricated parts.
I highly suggest you get a custom tune asap.

I'm not the only person using Gm's reflash on a turboed car. It runs fine. I have a wideband to monitor everything. unless I get into boost it runs just like stock. as soon as I see boost the A/F ratio is usually anywhere between 10.5-11.5. I don't think that I"m washing the cylinder walls with fuel. I think I'm fine.
PS: There is a new map sensor that reads boost and the computer compensates for it. I"ve been told by alot of poeple that using this method is just fine. I've had it at 6psi and at 11psi and the A/F ratio was fine. What I NEED is a bigger fuel pump cuz I'm still running the stocker...

have you had the car to the track?
Yeah, only once. right after the turbo was put in. I ran a 13.9@100. But since then I turned up the boost a little, installed a C02 sprayer, changed the IC to Throttle body piping from 2" to 2.5'', installed a 3" exhaust, put on a bored out throttle body, and learned how drive it with the turbo on:grinyes: . I'm going back to the track soon to see how much of a difference all that stuff made. hoping for a 13.5 run... maybe better. I also had some cracked vacuum lines that were causing a minor boost leak that I replaced. I don't think they were cracked when I was at the track tho.
To show you how much experience I had that day at the track. Here's a little timeframe...
Saturday: Installed the Turbo
Sunday: Still installing...
Monday: done. minor tweakage
Tuesday: Got a tune
Wednesday: Went to the track
The announcer had mentioned something about a cavalier on steroids.:evillol:
