I want a short throw shifter for my 1g tsi. I was wondering if it would be easy to install and will it be a direct replacement?

Yes. They're straight replacements. Just have to make sure all the nuts, bolts, washers, and crushers go back in place. Pretty simple.

Yuppers. My two cents is they are totally worth it man, I got one in my car and I love it. Depending on the situation, you might need to trim the shifter plate, but its very unlikely.

Kool. Now is there any brand of short shifter that is better than the others?

Nope. I've heard people talking all sorts of smack that you need to get a good brand shifter but its a pretty hard piece to fuck up IMO. You should be fine with a cheap ebay one, I've never heard of them breaking. You can modify the stocker to make it shorter as well, thats what went into my car. You should get metal bushings/bearings too, that will tighten up the shifting as well.

I am proof that the cheap ones do break. I loved mine. Spent like $50 on ebay for one. Some no name brand. No instructions, no nothing. Got on there really good and seemed nice and strong. There were little "threads" i guess you can call them on the arm piece that actually makes it shorter and those stripped out. The when I was driving to work oneday, the pin where the shifter cables connect to decided to shatter in rush hour traffic on a busy road. Thus leaving me with an intake shifter and cables, but no way to connect to the 2 together. Had to ghetto rig something to make it back home. I then went with a B&M and have had no problems. It feels better when shifting and it feels like its stronger. Had no problems yet. So it's your call. I do recommend the ebay ones, but some have problems.

Same thing with the 2G Eclipses? Direct bolt ons?

Yep, both direct bolt ons. I have short shifters in my 1g and 2g. Very nice addition. My 1g was a bit more expensive, I put it on in 99, but that was before there were alot of parts out for these cars. My 2g shifter cost about $35-40 on ebay. Get that symbroski shift kit and shift cable bushings and you will have a tight ass shift.
