TCC Shift solenoid? Lumina!

I own a 1997 Lumina...I believe the tcc solenoid is going out. Car only has 70,000 miles and starts shuddering once car reaches normal temperature. I read here somewhere that you can cut the Brown wire going to this and it will stop the shuddering. A mechanic near me said if the plug has only four wires you can just pull the plug. Mine is the round plug with many wires including a brown wire which is indicated by my book as the "TCC solenoid control". The book also says there is a black/tan wire that is used as "TCC enable Solenoid Control". Which one of these wires would I snip?
Thanks in advance! I really need your help fellas!

The OBDII cars really don't like it when you disable the TCC...and you'll have a persistant CEL and other systems may start throwing codes as well...

Car has real low mileage, which is usually low speed driving also. This can make the TCC sticky if it's not used to operating much. Probably just needs a partial fluid change and some TransX or Seafoam added to the tranny and drive the hell out of it, it may clear up.

I'm told

There may be a dedicated fuse for the TCC also...I know there was on older models. I'd look into that before cutting anything...

I changed the fluid about a week ago and did put seafoam in it. I have probably only drove it about 80 miles since then. It seems to be doing it worse than what it was. Mechanic said fluid was dirty but no more than most (no metal). Do you think 80 miles is enough to where I would have seen results from the seafoam? It only seems to do this shutter when kicking into OD and on kick down when going up a hill. Other than that it runs fine. Just do not want to keep running it if it is going to make things worse. Code at Advanced Auto said TCC system malfunction. He suspected solenoid. What do you guys think?

Seafoam? In a transmission? Do you realize what's in that stuff?

I figured no more than what Lucas or any others have in them?

They make a tranny specific treatment...works well on sticky valve bodies and will sometimes even bring some new life to burnt clutchpacks...I've never known it to hurt anything...

I'd give it a couple hundred miles to work before giving up on it. Force it to lock/unlock a lot, don't cruise at a steady speed.

if after 200-300 miles it's no improvement or getting more prominent, probably gonna need the solenoid...a tranny shop can do a diagnosis to see if it's the solenoid or the mechanism itself that's causing the problem, but 9 out of 10 is going to be the solenoid.

A solenoid chatter isn't really going to harm it short term. If it gets stuck applied is when it gets weird. motor dies at stops, and can't be shifted into gear on restart until it sits long enough to bleed the pressure off and release the lockup...

Will do friend! It never started doing this until I was stopped in traffic for a long period of time one day. Went to pull out and it shuttered and it was like I lost all power. It seemed like it was in neutral but would not rev up. Only does it when at operating temp. Changed fuel filter a and plug wires with no change. Started at OD when kicking down and then started at 3 rd when kicking in and out. Does not shift hard or irratic and it is sporatic when it will do this. Thanks Jeff and all others for your replies! Any other thoughts please share!

I wasn't aware they offered a formula specifically for transmissions. I'll have to check into that for analysis to see how much water and paint thinner are added to that mixture.

Back when I was younger and poorer I revived a couple of automatics with a pint of brake fluid in the sump...not that I'm advocating it but it does revive worn out rubber seals nicely.:uhoh:

Here...

The MSDS sheet should give you some idea what's in it...I'm gonna look later. Going to go ride motorcycle now, weather perfect. Later!
